drummereef's 180g in-wall build

some fun progress, brett. One thought... I've become a hater of poccilipora. It would sprout EVERYWHERE in my tank, and it was rather aggressive. Hopefully you won't have that issue and it will simply be a pleasant coral in your tank, but be warned! ;)

Thanks for the nice comments on my aiptasia-infested tanks:) It was good seeing you again and I look forward to seeing those frags growing in your system. Acros are so dang easy to frag:lol:

:thumbsup::thumbsup: Believe me, there's too much awesome in your tanks, I didn't see any aiptasia. :D

UPDATE:

OK guys, here's the pics. I re-fragged a couple things tonight just to give them the best possible chance I could. So the pics don't completely represent the current state of things but at least you'll get an idea of what's going on. :)

Also, I'm going to number the pics so please chime in if you know the names of these. Let's make a list!

1) Blue Tip Acro?

Brett,

I think this one is ORA Spongodes. I have a huge one in my tank. it grow and encrusted it self onto a rock fast, and will most likely out grow every thing there on that island. make sure to give it a lot of space.

BTW, nice collection so far.

#2 is not an Acropora, no axial growth tips. Still amazingly sweet though!

#6 Potentially Acropora plana? Definitely looks like a tabling acro, so give it lots of flow.

#8 A. rosaria, or one of the similar smooth skinned acros.

#11 Looks like an ORA Tricolor

#19 Is crazy! That almost looks like one coral is growing over another living coral!

#21 A. tenius.

#22 Probably also A. tenius.

#23 ORA Spongodes, a type of Montipora.

They're all cool though, should definitely give you a lot of variety. Also note that experts in the field have significant trouble classifying corals by their species names so everything I spouted off up there should be taken with a large grain of salt. ;)

Hi Brett,

Congrats on the addition of the SPS and all the free goodies! They look awesome.

I have a question about the Esto Connectors system you used for the light rack. I'm considering doing the same myself cause really, yours looks so clean and easy. Do you think that the 1.5" tubing would be sturdy enough to handle the weight of the reflectors without the additional bracing? Or do you think that either way you'd have to increase the rigidity of the rack to handle the weight of the lights.

Thanks!

Thanks for the heads up Chris. I had heard they can drop polyps at will so I'll keep a close eye on them.

okay now I'm jealous

:D

Thanks for all the input Alex. I think you might be spot on with your guesses! :)

Hi Brett,

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words. :) The 1.5" tubing would be more sturdy for sure but it's hard to say if it will hold the weight of your reflectors without flexing. There can be flex at the joint points as well so something to consider. If you have a local hardware store nearby, check if they have some 1.5" tubing and see how much it flexes at a 6' span. At least you'll know what to expect when you purchase the real stuff. I did this a few times before I purchased from Esto. ;)

Sorry to answer for you Brett...

I ended up using the EXACT same esto connectors as Brett, but used LumenMax Elite Reflectors. I did not add support and rather just used chain to hang them to the ceiling. You will have a very SLIGHT bend in the very middle but definately not enough to worry about it. I would say less than 1/2"

Just my .02$
