drummereef's 180g in-wall build

Sorry, I meant to say dinoflagellates. Is your chaeto growing nicely?

Chaeto seems about the same. It's only been about a week so far so I wasn't expecting drastic growth. It shed a bit of small stuff that I cleaned out during the last water change but other than that not much noticeable change. ;)

UPDATE:

Some new pics for you guys.

Thought this was kind of a cool lighting shot. Just the left side halide was on.

Great pictures Brett and everything looks super healthy :)

Thanks Pete! :)

I envy you. What coral is that in the third picture? It's so cool! I also love that fifth picture, the schooling action.

That's a Neon Green Candycane or Trumpet coral. The chromis do a pretty good job of schooling even in a 180g like mine. They separate some when all the lights come on but they get along with each other which is what I care about most with them. :)

Brett tank looks very well maintained and your photo skills are getting better.Put it all together one sweet set up. Thank you for all the effort you put into keeping us all informed.

Things are looking great, and your rocks are very clean! I often wonder how the gorgonian is doing - has it recovered from the pests?

Did you stop using your GFO because your phosphates stayed in check with just the biopellets?

Brett, amazing update !! Don´t know if you share this allready, so here it goes.

The biopellets life go from 5 to 6 months, correct ?

Once my readings start to increase, do i change everything or just put some more pellets ?

Thanks !!

Thank you for staying with my on this long journey canyousee! Much appreciated. ;)

Thanks! The Gorg is doing great. Polyps are extended so it's looking good again. I'll try and get another pic of it tonight. Yes, PO4 is still 0.00. For some reason my nitrates have gone up to ~15ppm but the PO4 is undetectable with my Hanna Checker. So I feel there is no need for PO4, just trying some different methods to get the NO3 down a bit.

From my understanding, biopellets can last in the reactor for much longer than even 5-6 months depending on the bio load of the system. When I used mine I didn't see a significant decrease in pellet volume over the few months I used them. If you see a decline in volume and/or the nutrient levels (N and P) start to rise then you probably need to add more to the reactor to keep up with the demand of the tank. Hope this helps. ;)

Ok, thanks for the reply, and I'd love to see a picture when you get a chance. It's neat to see the encrusting with your tri-color. Mine is not yet cooperating with that, but I'm sure it will! ;)

UPDATE:

Per request... here's a couple pics of the Gorgonian. It's doing well, good polyp extension and seems happy overall. :)

And a little success story... When Nook first gave me my original frags one didn't care for the cold drive home, I thought I was going to lose it as the coral was completely bleached and very sick looking. Well me being me I couldn't stand tossing in the towel so I crossed my fingers and gave it some time. Here's the before and after...

Original frag... a little sickly. (1-19-11) :(

And here's the same frag today! (7-19-11)

awesome

Thanks Pete. :) Still battling these stupid Dinos though. Don't really know what else to try at this point. Not a big deal, since they aren't in epic proportions as the pics show, but there's just enough to make the sand bed look dirty. They also cling to the glass a bit as well. Do you think time will just take it's course and they will eventually just go away or is there something else I can try?

This is the same thing I'm going through Brett. Up until this point we had been taking a little bit different path, but I'm not convinced mine are dino's but wow this stuff takes over the sand bed REALLY quick.
