When drilling with the hole saw, I've never seen the need to drill a pilot hole. The drill bit in the arbor is the pilot bit, which drills through cleanly before the hole saw works its magic.

Great pictures.

I only did that because I thought the hole saw bit might have a tendency to be drawn into the acrylic. I have some other drill bits that do this and didn't want the saw part to come down into the acrylic hard. Probably overkill but you know I'm not one to do things the simple way right?

Here's the latest pics of the plumbing. Still working out some details but it's coming right along. :)

I noticed your Dart and my Dart both have different motors then whats pictured on most sites. You said something about it being a "Baldor" motor, but I don't know what it means. Whats special about it? Is it still quiet?

hey brett are we gonna see some water tomorrow or what.... i love your plumbing design looks great.... well done...

Yeah, I don't know why all the retail sites don't update the pic. Kind of deceiving and frustrating... But the newer Baldor motor is supposed to be a better, more reliable motor than the previous A.O. motors. From what I've heard they are very quiet but as my pics show I haven't fired it up yet. :D We'll see.... :)

bcordill has a mini review of both Darts. He runs both versions on his setup. An awesome setup I might add. ;)

Hey, I remember you said your 40 breeder had grown up a lot since the first pictures you posted on this thread, but did you ever post any recent ones?

I actually tried to get one today before I did a water change but it didn't turn out so good. :( if I can get over there tomorrow I'll try to get a good one.

Over there? Are the tanks in two different houses?

I left my 40g over at my folks when I moved. I only see it once a week to maintain it. It looks pretty good for not babysitting it. :). My mom likes it though.

I started gluing up the plumbing today. Got most of the return plumbing done and am working on the drains. All the previous pics were a dry test fit. Down to the final stretch of the plumbing under the display, then I'll move towards the return pump. I should be able to update some pics in a day or two. :)

i thought we're going to see some pictures of water in the tank today... :(:(:(:(:(
we want water. we want water... we want water.. just playing take your time... make sure everything is running good...

Hehe. I'm thinking I'll be able to start some fresh water tests next week if all goes as planned. I'm really close now. :)

Ever so closer! Sweet man.

I'm getting pretty stoked. I can see it coming together now. :)

UPDATE:

Have some updated pics for you guys. All the plumbing in the pics is glued and ready for water. :) I'm still working on the left side drain so it's not quite ready as you'll see in the pics. I am also going to tie up the right drain so I can get a nice downward slope towards the sump. Need to pick up some wire ties for that.

Right Side Drain/Return. The union below is for the manifold.

Left Side Drain/Return. You can see where I'm still measuring for the last drain connection. ;)

You might want to start getting that water ready now, its going to take approximately forever to fill up your tank ;).
