drummereef's 180g in-wall build

I know the feeling. My garden is only half planted my tank is filthy and the rain is not letting me finish the outdoor stuff so that I can spend some time on the wet kids in the house.

I think we are in the same club. :D

Crikey. It's been over a month and no new pics. You're fallin down on the job, man! :D

Haha, so true. Soon, very soon. :)

"Crikey"????? Too much Steve Irwin recently Dennis?

Another 10 days without pics! I think Brett threw himself out of the tank and onto the carpet! Someone go to his house and check for carpet Jerky! Quick:lmao:

Now get some updates on here before I have to call your wife!:frog:

Hahaha Krazie. I have no excuses this time....

All I can say is WOW!! Your setup start to finish is incredible! Everything about your setup has been top notch, I have read thru multiple times now lol. I will be starting a designated " fish room " soon and will probably be inquiring about some details lol. Thank you for the many great ideas to incorporate in our systems along with the detailed process. Would you mind posting some pictures of the entire fish room? Maybe specifically the wall with the door and the wall that your RO system is on? I am trying to get my general layout put together.

Chris

Just read through 191 pages... about 1/3 of the way through got out a shopping list for things I can use right now LOL. Wonderful work. Bookmarked for future ideas as I transition from my first "real" tank into a longer term reef "solution".

Thanks for the kind words Chris and good luck with your build. I will try and get some updated room pics but it's difficult to get a full shot since I can't stand far enough back to get the bigger picture. The best view of the room is probably the Sump Room Tour I posted a while ago. It's an old video and there's been a lot of updates since I posted it but you can at least get a feel of the room. I hope to post a new sump room video soon to show all of the updates. Hope this helps. :)

Thank you jimmy_beaner. :) Good luck with your build and get ready to start donating your benjamins.

I've already started it... but you gave me a lot of ideas about how to clean it up. Planning is such a huge part of it. I need to do more planning and less improvising once it's started.

Indeed. I'm always a fan of planning before building. You can definitely save a little on the back end and usually make improvements to your original ideas as you go along.

Bahhhh! Planning is over rated!
If you do it that way, you'll eventually have nothing left to and you'll get bored. Better to do it your way THEN come back here and look at how brett did it. Trust me.

BTW, i still don't see any new pics. :hammer:

I don't want to see any more pics!! Dennis and Brett are making me want to spend way too much money!!!!!! Lmao

I totally get tank envy following you two.

If I had never run across (and actually read this "bible" of a build), the single best part of my build would've never happened. I've done a few things different but thank you so much for the manifold!

He's still in the planning stages of taking new pics, haha

Haha Brett!

Funny on how we have all grown to expect great craftmanship, videos and pics of Brett. Wish I had the same for my own tank....lmao!

Yeah, what's up with that! :D

Thanks Saltydrip. :)

Brett, what is going on over here? No updates in weeks. Sending out an APB....

Haha. So sorry, been really busy with other projects and haven't had time/energy to post any updates. Honestly I've been fairly feed up with the tank in the last month or two. Battled another round of Dinos which took out a few more corals in the process... Have I said I HATE Marco Rock before??

That manifold looks great FoxDaddy. Nicely done.

UPDATE:

So I've decided to regroup... After spending 3 years attempting to "fix" the mistake I made by starting the tank with Marco Rock - constant battles with Dinoflagellates etc - something's gotta change. I'm fully confident there's something toxic deep in the rock that I can't test for and ultimately cannot fix. I've lost multiple fish over the last few years and now many corals battling this issue, and frankly I'm fed up. Myself and a few others that started their tanks around the same time using Marco Rock have all had similar issues, so I'm definitely not alone.

That said, the plan is to maintain the tank until the fall and then replace the display rock and sand with new "real" live rock. I'll keep everyone posted but that's the story. Sorry for the lack of updates lately, hope you all understand...

Brett- sorry to hear that the rock just isn't working out. I'm glad you are re-grouping and going to take another run at it. Your methods are sound and you obviously have the drive to make it work so I have no doubt you'll get it done.

Looking forward to hearing what kind of rock you go with.
