DSA 65g SPS build

Got the plumbing completed and glued with no leaks. That part took a lot longer than I thought it would. I spent several hours just making sure it was right. I then got my light hung and started filling up the tank. I also got my apex set up and that thing is AWESOME!

Just threw some live rock in there that has been cycling for the past month or so. This week I plan on cleaning up the wires underneath. I will hopefully get my aquascape done next week.

Got the left side of my aquascape complete. I used zip ties and some quicrete hydraulic water stop, which I had read works well. It did not work well for me and most ended up cracking.

The right side rock is just thrown in there for now, it won't stay like that.

I really like the rock work! I cant wait to see this tank up and running. How do you like your apex? I have been debating between an apex and a reef keeper elite.

Love your set up this is the same tank I got. So i might have missed it but is that light a mh or is that the ati t5 fixture? I like the stand color, it looks rustic lol

Thanks ! I had the same debate and ended up with the apex and I am glad I did. It is a little more complex to get set up but man it rocks. I have a wireless connection hooked up to it and the app on my phone so I can control the tank and watch parameters from anywhere. If your in Lubbock and you wanna see it hit me up.

Thanks man. The light is the ATI 8 bulb sunpower. I read lots of good things about it so I am giving it a try. Several tanks I really admire on here have the same light (reef in the sky). I am glad you like the color of the stand!

Nice that's the same light I got too except mine is a 6 bulb. I haven't set the light up yet but your tank looks amazing and ill have to soon lol. Great looking set up can't wait to see it with some sps in it!

i was debating on getting the 8 bulb sunpower, and after seeing this i kinda wish i did get the 8... dang ittt. looks good! i can't wait to get mine going as well.

Couple of updates to the tank. I have moved a few frags over from the smaller tank and they are doing well so far. I recently found some red bugs in the small tank and I treated once, i am going to treat again this week.

I was unhappy with my durso style so I upgraded to a herbie style. It is 1000000x better than before. I am able to run my mag 9 full blast, and it is completely silent. I am totally happy with my plumbing now.

I painted the sides of my 5g ATO white to match the inside of the stand. I am able to hide my wires fairly well behind it with lots of velcro ties to hold them together.

Looks great.how did u like the quality from dsa? I got my 190 and I would say its not the neatest.front pane slide left almost a full 1/8th.. But your setup looks great!

Thanks for the compliments. The tank is still doing well. I have moved lots of frags over and they are doing good. I am a little nervous to move my clams over but I will probably do that within the next couple weeks. The tank has a midas blenny now that is doing well. I will move my clowns and royal gramma over within a week or two.

ebond, I really like the tank. I am very happy with the quality of the tank. Everything is nice and square and the overflow teeth are all perfect unlike some tanks I have seen.

Great stuff. Loving the setup.

How did you silicone the starboard down? How much silicone was used?

Thanks bud. I cut the starboard very carefully to leave a small gap all the way around. You want it to be about 3/16 or so. Just so the starboard sits flat on the bottom and not the silicone holding the tank together. After I cut it I just used some regular aquarium safe silicone, taped it off carefully and laid down a nice bean and pressed it into the gap. No silocone on the bottom of the starboard. Make sure you pick up the tape while the silicone is still wet to get a nice clean line.

I like this build. Planning on upgrading my 20g to a 65g and wanted to do the same sort of Return Pump -> Reactor piping. Is this working out for you? I like the idea of not having to get another pump.

It's working out great for me. Just get a return pump a couple hundred gph more than you normally would to run the reactor. There are lots of PVC fittings to plumb it in together.

I got everything from the nano moved over Thirsday. Everything is doing great. The clowns were fine, royal gramma was a little nervous for an hour or so. No casualties at all and my rbta split last night. I also got an mp40 and mp10 going.

Sorry for the bad pics, only have an iPhone camera for now.

Nice set up! How do you like that ATI fixture?? I love mine, but I only have a 6-lamp.

Well done!

Thanks man. So far I am liking the 8 bulb fixture. Once everything settles in and acclimats to the light I am excited to see how the growth does. I will be hopefully covering the entire bottom with different encrusting montis.

I like that idea. If I had not gotten such a smoking deal on my 6 lamp, I would have bought an 8-lamp. I don't think you can beat the ATI fixtures if you're going to go t5 on a tank. The 8 lamp will really let you dial in color.

I look forward to seeing this grow in.
