DSPS tank from Thailand (1000 gallon+)

Thanks for the wecam access, unfortunetly its 4:30 in the morning where you are now so all I see is darkness, but I can hear pumps running. Run down and turn the lights on for me real quick. LOL! Definetly going to take a look late on.

Hi Ching Cai,

Can You help me with a few question about refugium and Nitrate problem :

It's about my refugium, i used sugar size sand bad for 10 cm and macro algae (Fully Growth),and Protein Skimmer with 4000ltr/hour Pump, my tank volume 220 ltr, my refugium volume 35 ltr, my sump volume 90 ltr. I was running my tank for 3 months but my nitrate level was rise from 25 to 50. I do water chage for 100 ltr my nitrate down to 25 but next 2 weeks rise again to 50. I used crush coral in the main tank i don't used sand bad. I do water change for 40 ltr/ 2 weeks and use RO Water with reef salt.

My Question :

1. How long for anaerobic bacteria can establish in the sand bed in refug. ?
2. For my tank size 220 ltr, sump 90 ltr, It's ideal size with Refugium 35 ltr?
3. I was used bacterial additive like: seachem stability, zeo bactery, vodka but no satisfied result.

Thanks a Lot Ching Cai

Anton

Hi, only some questions:

How many LR ?
What kind of skimmer ?
Flow through refugium ?
Water exchange through tank/sump ?
4000 liters / hour is not a very significant parameter.

1. I am not sure. Maybe one month or two.
2. Bigger is better.
3. Your tank is just three months old. How come you used so many additive?
I suggest you to stick with only one product and give it more time to settle.

P.S How is your rock? Is it dead or live? And is it already cured yet?

Mr. Chingchai,
absolutely incredible tank you have there. I cannot have a dream of a tank that splendid. My hats off to you.

Nice ventralis did they come from Australia? Cairns marine collect on the great barrier reef and they supply my lfs, they got some ventralis in a week or 2 before you got yours all 6 are alive and well. i beleive they could be from them as they export from what i was told they have a new pressure chamber and depressurised 100 ventralis over 4 days.

i think it is Turbinaria Reniformis.

i was reading about the Ventralis Anthias in Scott Michaels book, Reef
Fishes, volume 1. they are from very great depths, like 90-120 meters. there is an area in Micronesia at that depth they call the Ventralis zone. 82% of all fish in that zone are Ventralis.

he also says that they don't do well in brightly lit reef tanks. it will be interesting to see how they do in your system.
