thanks chingchai -

so i'm sure i'll learn something from your answers here...

why 454nm actinics instead of the super actinic?

what are the photo periods?

i vaguely remember that you tried radiums... what do you like about the Ushio's better? less blue?

do you use any external reflectors with the VHO's or just the internal?

finally, why VHO's since these bulbs are all available in T5HO?

i'm setting up light over a 70" x 60" and considering VHO's too.

Wow, absolutely amazing.

I skimmed through all 136 pages tonight :O

I've got a few build questions for you:

1) Did you take the white marble all the way up on the walls to the ceilings in the main tank room? Or did you use another material on the walls?

2) What did you wrap main hood, stand & rim in? White acrylic?

3) You said you used just hi-gloss wooden panels for the sliding doors? Did you buy them like this or paint them with the high gloss white yourself?

4) Did you also use a high gloss white on the inside of all of the cabinets? It looks like you used good finish wood - everything looks perfect cuts & all.

5) What did you use to label all the plumbing & mixing tank? I think you said stickers, but did you buy them from some where or print them up on your computer or something?

6) Where did you get your sensor switches & what do they control again exactly?

7) How do you like the STICK with Phillips 8 color changing LED strip? (are there different colored LED's or does the single LED change multiple colors? - if so, what strip did you get exactly from phillips)

Our preference is different.
I love open look.:)

Ah, to each their own. I, too would think it would look nice open, but with the pumps and plumbing, and the wall behind, I just dont see that. But, as you mentioned, that is just my preference. It always has the "unfinished" look to me. Anyway, good luck.

I like the tank without the background. In time the pipes and wires won't be visible.

I would agree, if Ching appeared to be sloppy about maintenence. But I am guessing that isnt the case, and the back will be fastidiously cleaned. But.....I dont understand why if "in time" they will be covered with coraline, etc to be "invisible", why that cant be in 5 minutes instead, with a black background. I just dont get it. But alas, it doesnt matter, it is just my preference.

I suspect the point was that the the corals will grow to obscure the plumbing in the coming year!

There "were" he had some disease go through the system. Read back about 20 pages or so and you will find the explanation follow by the build of the QT system.

Just got done reading (skimming for the pics mainly) the whole thread...

Tank rocks, Penfold's rocks, shiraz rocks. Wow an amazing build for sure!

It took me a while to go through this whole forum and it was worth it. I'm glad I found it. Incredible display for the love of the hobby. Envious by all, mainly me:lol:. Keep up your incredible masterpiece and continue to keep us informed please. Thanks Chingchai

- color of 454 is bluer, brighter than super actinic
- photo period is VHO (8am-6pm), MH (8.30am-5pm)
- Radium and Ushio almost have the same blue color but Ushio is a little brighter
- No, I didn't use external reflector
- I choose VHO T12 because T12 is brighter than T5
