Nitrate Problem

Hi Ching,

I am Anton from Indonesia,

Amazing tank, may be " THE BEST IN THE WORLD " ,
I just setup my new 100 GL tank, i had high nitrate problem. How to solve this problem? I used natural sea water but test kit said 0 nitrate level before and up and up now is 25 mg for 1 month, i used sedra p. skimmer(pump 4000l/hour and refugium light for 12 hour/day with 10cm sand bed.

2. Can you take a shot of your tank with ONLY 20.000K MH ?

3. I see LPS coral in your tank, Are give your brain and dougnut coral with shrimp or not ?

Thank A Lot

Anton

Hi Anton,

Thank you for your kind words.
So this is new tank setup. Right?
If so, just let it run for minimum two or three month.
I am not familiar with this skimmer so I don't know whether it is efficient for your tank.
Also how about your live rock condition and your filtration system?
2. I will do it soon.
3. No, I never feed shrimp to my LPS.

Amazing

Amazing

Hi Ching:

I have been reading your thread for some time now, I have to say it is people like you who has a such a great vision that follows through and make it into reality that inspires other to do the same. I have a 210 gallon almost reef tank, between your thread and Peters, I have learned a tremendous amount of information and knowledge. So Thank you.

I was also wondering what kind of feeding regime do you have for your fishes and corals, and what is your water chemistry in your tank as far as, calcium, alk, etc etc. lastly besides the calcium reactor and kalk doser, do you add anything else to your tank?

I realize it maybe Q & A in the thread already, I apologize in advance if it has.

Thanks again for your time.

Best regards

Richard S

Hello Chingchai, I have been following your thread for close to a year now. Your tank is truely a masterpiece. Your fish selection never fails to amaze me, from the amazing hawkfish, to the swissguard, crosshatches, candy striped hogfish, and achilles, you have some of the most sought after and beautiful fish in the world. That being said, I came across this anthias today, and with my college student budget I can in no way afford it, but I must say in your tank they would look spectacular. I have no idea where to get them, but they are a must have for any fish lovers wish list in my opinion. Best wishes- Dan

If the gardener is satisfied with his garden he doesn't deserve that garden

As a gardener I can tell you that a more true statement is "If the gardener is satisfied with his garden he wants a bigger one!"

Perfection is boring. Trial and error is fun!

5,000g? Now that would be one crazy project!!

Hi Ching,

Thanks a lot for your quick reply, i will running my tank for about 3 months.
My skimmer produced a lot of of skimmate all day, I dont know it's efective or not ? What do you think ?

Here is my condition of live rock, my live rock position in main tank and in the sump in refugium only. Live rock is fully cured because i taken from my old tank and i just add 4 pcs live rock but it's no smell when i bought and now it's no smell too. Here is my filtration Step 1 : P. Skimmer Step 2 : Refugium with fast growing plant and 10 cm s.bed Step 3 : Return pump.

I have a question about aptasia, do you ever had aproblem with this pest ? and How to Solve this problem?

Thanks A Lot Ching,

Anton

Hi Anton,

For your skimmer, just make sure the skimmate is dark yellow color.
For aiptasia, When I set up new tank, I always introduce Peppermint shrimp at the first stage.
I put 30 of them in this tank.
And I never see any single aiptasia in my tank.
Hope this helps.

Anton. You are welcome.
1. I use Elos test kit for Nitrate and Phosphate.
2. I never try Seachem garlic guard. But I prefer this one.

Chingchai Hello!
I'm really happy to do learn internet!
Are several months that follow your wonderful work your tenacity and love
enriches this hobby to us every day that passes more and more, thanks
make us participants each day!
I noticed that there was a video as a background song Italian Song
(Andrea Bocelli) are happy to believe this .... but missing a good bottle
Italian wine: D should you come to Thailand next year
certainly will take care: beer:

If I'd like you to ask questions;
-What are your Components for GHL Profilux?
-What relationship "Rocks" / "Liters" you used? or rather how many pounds of rocks you have in
bathtub?
-About all'acquascape, I realized that you still stuck around and made of twine
but I can not figure out how to make rocks (because they have a very basic small-
at least from what we understand from the pictures) to stay with the current and impiedi
corals growing more and more?
-Currently as enlightened advice for a successful life
corals?
- I will have to set up a new tank of 310 liters net (100x60x55h) is
advised Achilles? how many kilograms of rocks you put on?

Forgive the many questions but I want to your opinion!
Thank you and forgive me English!
Andrea

Hey Ching, I believe, or at least, according to live aquaria's diver's den, that those new starfish you got only eat sponges, nothing else.

Hi Andrea,

Thanks for your kind words.
I love Italian red wine. Very tasty and not so expensive.
Here are the answers to your question:
- I have ph, orp, temperature and conductance probe
- total weight of my live rock is around 500 lbs
- for the aquascape, base rock must be big and strong enough to support top layer
- my advice is you have to concentrate on 3 things. Lighting, current and pristine water
- This tank size is too small for Achilles tang. I will choose branch shape rock to aquascape this tank. Not more than 30 kg.

Cheers,
