Duncanopsammia Axifuga help

how big were the ones that you guys got...
I already have the bright green but was going to order the other 4 color varieties...

Mine is about the size of a nickel fully open.

Mine came in fine. They opened and ate the first night in my tank. The purple one wasn't what I had hoped for though. It was more lavender with green tips, almost identical to one I already had, maybe just a tad darker. Either they sent me a bicolor by mistake or Roes bicolors are something entirely different or most likely, the purples and bicolors are all pretty much the same thing with slight variations although I haven't seen them all to confirm that. Polyps were about quarter sized. I have to say the yellows are very cool.

give them a couple of weeks to settle in i thought the same thing when mine opened i even did a side by side comparison for myself.
after a few days the purple ones green tips could hardly been seen and it was considerably larger then the other 2 colors i have

Yeah that's about how mine looks. I'd like to see a good picture of the purple and the bicolors side by side to see how different they really are. It's kinda hard to tell from Roe's group shot. I'm real happy with what I got though. These really are awesome animals.

Hey guys. Do your duncans closes for a while I have not seen mine open since yesterday, nothing has changed in the tank, it's been open since I got it for a couple of weeks looking great.

Another positive vote for Roe's from me. I ordered 2 different types, a yellow and bicolor. Both arrived in great condition. The yellows opened up right away. The bicolors took about a day to open. I ordered 2 polyps of the yellows, which also had 3 new heads growing (5 polyps), and I ordered 2 polyps of the bocolors (which had 2 new heads growing ( 4 polyps). It has been a couple weeks and now they look great. I will try and post a pic a little later.

Yes mine will randomly close but not much more then a couple of hours.
my yellow seem to be the most temperamental

IMO the yellows from RMW are bleached... at least mine looks that way. It took a week or more to open, and when it did it was almost completely white. and had stringy tentacles opposed to the fat/fuller ones of the ORA and the purple RMW.

If you want the real duncans, not the roes, zoafrag.com sells them for $30 a polyp. Mine opened up within a few days, but with little lighting, I was told they like less than 4 watts per gallon. Mine is at a little above that and they still look great.

Those are the same as Roes. The best are the ORA ones. I believe Viper930 and a few others have them. Much larger and nicer in color.

oddly not a fan of the ORA ones but i haven't been having the problems with my yellows either once they chill out and extend they are a very nice full Duncan.
who knows maybe chelskisw6 is rite but after a month mine have not changed in color or appearance and have babies that are the same coloration as the mother polyp so got me.

Have you seen one fully opened? They are everything the Roes are but much nicer, larger and more colorful.

I like both ORA and Roes- i think it just depends on your taste :)
My roe's yellow is also a little finicky- it came unglued so i have it on the sand bed now but its also producing a few babies so i think when they do that they have to like, constrain themselves a little to put energy into makin babies

i don't know.. dendros seem to act that way too.

Once i get some super glue back in place it goes.. i've been feeding mine at night so my cleaner shrimp dont steal food chunks out of their bellies either

Yea my Lfs has a couple of them the tentacles are longer and a bit more slender then the Roes version.
also the green hue is not to my liking
i am going to frag one of my bi-color soon and take it in to do a side by side comparison

I ordered Duncans twice froms Roe's.Both orders came in very healthy-they opened in the bag while acclimating.
I have found that these Duncans are very good alkalinity indicators- if my ALK drops the Duncan polyps close up.
