Dwarf Angels not reef safe

I am roaming the check out your fish purchase thread and come across a common theme that dwarf angels are not reef safe or reef safe with caution. My question is do Dwarf Angels gravitate to a specific kind of coral? Are zoas safer than Stoney corals vs things like hammers and torches?

Any thoughts on a suitable dwarf angel in a 105 gallon primarily zoa tank?

This is one of those topics you will definitely get mixed responses on. IMO, I'd say flame angels are one of the safer bets (I've had one for about 2.5 years and no issues at all with any corals), but it's still a gamble and everybody's experience will vary slighty. I have a mitratus butterfly currently in QT that I'm taking a gamble on, so hopefully he turns out to be a model citizen too.

I have 3 in 3 different tanks. One eats zoos and the other 2 appear to be reef safe. It's a total craps shoot.

I have a Cherub angel in my reef and he doesn't touch any of my corals anymore. He use to nip at several different kinds and he wrecked havoc on a pocilipora but now he leaves them alone too. I do not have zoas or any other polyp type corals so can't help with that. I've got mostly LPS acans, Duncan's, blasto's, torches, frogspawn, hammers and a few other SPS and leathers. He's being a good fish for several months now, no nipping.

I have tried roughly 6 different species of dwarfs from the common Flame to the less common Golden. Every single one eventually nipped at my coral. It is normally the fleshy LPS that were most commonly decimated.

I have a coral beauty and bi color angel and so far they haven't bother my corals or clams.All fish will have their own personality,so it's up to us if we want to take that chance.

Does "fleshy" include frogspawn, duncans, hammers and torches? Or is it more reserved or corals like blastos, open brain, acans, scoly's, etc?

Which four do you have? Would love to put some color in my tank. 140 gallon with a pyramid and copperband butterfly. Mostly yellow and white.

Three in the display (flame, potters , LemonPeel); one in qt (Eibli).

They are not. Don't do it. Only corals they don't eat are neon like frogspawn or ricodera or polyps they will nip at all others

I've had luck with a potters... but yeah could be just a matter of time.

I got a Potter's for about a year and I never saw it nip on any coral or clam in my tank.

Though not exactly dwarfs (but still fairly small), the angels in the Genicanthus genus are the best bet for reef-safe angels. Beautiful fish as well.
