EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40 Release Information

I bought and received a vortech several days ago and not install it.

Because There is no agent of Vortech in my country as long as I know,I ordered and receive it in US.

I heard I can register my vortech, Could you tell me how to do it?

I pmed EcoTech Marine but no replies...

If I register it, Can I receive the updated news or upgrade information via email?

Thanks in advance~!!

jay24K, yeah I think I followed your experience pretty closely becuase I think you were a little undecided in the beginning. Glad to hear it has been mostly smooth.

Any chance of posting some pics of your setups. Still need to get cable length and diag box size to see how it will work with my setup. Ash/Tim, I hope you don't mind me sending you an email for the spec's.

Just wanted to say that I finally got around to emailing Ice Cap customer service regarding the wet end bearing for my MP40. Within three days I am holding a new wet end bearing assembly.

Great customer service!

Thanks all at IceCap!

I read a lot of post of folks griping about glitches with these pumps. If all I have to do is change a bearing once a year, how different is that from all those Sequence external pump bearings that reefers have been changing annually over the years???

Hmmm? ... and no heat issues either...

Well worth a little maintenance. I'll be ordering a pair with BB when the controllers are out.

Thanks

I got my replacent a few weeks ago and haven't had a problem since.... Ice cap customer service still #1 in my book, I can't wait to get the battery backup hope to order it in a week or 2.

I had a snail crall into one of mine and I guess jam up the prop and knocked it off the wall. Pryed the snail out and its good as new :)

Just thougth id post hah

yeah, snails aren't the rightest bulbs. I find columbellids stuck in mine all the time. It's a shape thing. I just turn the pump off and they usually fall off, or I tap them with a scraper.

Well folks, I got off the fence and made my mind up to try the Votech.
First I had to determine if I could even get the Votech to work with my tank setup. So a few emails to EcoTech and Icecap helped explain the length of the power cord between the motor, driver, power supply and the A/C plug. Even after sending them my crude diagram, I was not certain if the pump power cord configuration would work for me:
(Tim/Andy I still think a schematic of the entire pump layout would be handy)

Andy from Icecap, convinced me to give it a try. Worst case, I just return the pump.

I got the pump about a week ago. I could not set it up until after Valentines' day - for obvious reasons. I finally got my chance this past weekend. The setup was a breeze. I spent more time reading the instructions than I did setting up and aligning the pump. I thought alignment would have been the most anoying task but just nudged it left, right,up,down until the noise reduced to its lowest level and let the baby run on high. At 100% the pump was a little noisey but my skimmer makes more noise than that. I cut the output down to 50% and I could bearly hear the outside motor. I am currently running the pump at 75%.

How's the flow? Schweet! Even with my rockscape in the center of the tank, I still get a good flow above and around the islands. I'm wondering if it might be too much for the fish.

My biggest concern with getting this pump was having to deal with some of the bugs mentioned on this thread. Three days and counting - no issues.

I have only anchored the power cord above the pump, as recommended. I'll anchor the rest of the cord and driver after it has been up for a couple of weeks without issues.

Here are some pictures of the pump. Now I'm ready to add some more Coral to my tank:
The AquaClear pump on the left will be going. I have it in there to help filter out debris for the time being.

Pump from outside - makes less noise than my skimmer

It really does give the tank a nice clean look

very nice! After seeing a recent wet frame, I think you will have a better experience than I did initially. It seems to perform better than my older ones.

Once the fish get accustomed to it, you'll see them play in the flow. Mine surf them all the time. They sneak up near it from the side, jump in front, and ride it sideways across the tank. It's a kick to watch.

So true! Very funny to watch. Especially my porcupine puffer. It tries to follow suit like the rest of my fish and let's itself blow like a balloon to the other side of the tank. :D

Good idea on the schematic, I'll put one together today. The other good thing is that no matter what, there's option for extending the wires. You can either extend the cord going from the wall to the power supply or the cord going from the power supply to the driver. You cannot extend the cord going from the driver to the pump though, that is fixed at 8' long.

You'll love the VorTech in your 75, that's the size tank I was running when I first got mine.

Just to clarify here, I think Jon is referring to the entire wet side assembly not just the wet frame. The wet frame is juts one part in the wet side assembly. Jon purchased a spare wet side assembly to have on hand to make cleaning simpler.

Yep, in the beginning I was uncertain how much cord I would have between the pump and the driver. If it was less than 4' then there was no way it would have worked with my setup. Once you told me it was over 7', I figured it should work out fine.

I'm really impressed with the current a single pump generates throughout the entire tank. Nice job guys:cool:

yeah sorry, I amusing the worng teminology. The entire recent wet side is what I was referring to. :)

So I had posted some time ago that I was going to get an IR thermometer and get some temps. on my Vortech motors. I placed the Oaton IR thermometer 1" from the motor heat fins and got this:

Pump #1: 126.9F

Pump #2: 154.7F

Pump #3: 138.4F

These are average temps. of the fins, so I imagine that the interior temps. may be actually higher. The coolest one is the unit that I cut out the center of the motor side gasket to prevent rubbing.
