EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40 Release Information

I want to keep all kinds of corals, and I do not want anything to limit what I can keep, especially at this point since its a new tank. The only other flow will be coming from the return which is powered by a Eheim 1262. I assume that since you have tunzes in addition to the vortech, I as well will need more then just one vortech. Am I right? Would one not provide enough flow?

Hey Rob, it's not just about what is "enough", but what will make your corals thrive right? Will 25X flow in the tank measure up?

I have 4 in my 1000g display which is about 12X flow plus another 4000gph from my return. My corals love the flow and you can tell by their reaction to it, especially when a pump is out for repair. I will probably put another two on the tank, maybe three, once I see how this latest generation works.

My issue with having just one is that it won't give you the opportunity to pulse flow from more than one direction. So even if you have to run them at half speed (so you don't blow the water out of the tank), I would think two for most tanks is the minimum from a wave-making viewpoint.

You can always get one and try it, but I would guess that once you see how cool the flow is, you will decide to get another one.

Depends what you mean by "next gen". Right now, the next gen is the same pump but with a new driver that can be controlled by a wireless controller. That's due out this summer(ish).

There hasn't been any news as to what comes after that.

What would you like to see? EcoTech/Icecap seem receptive to suggestions. (I'll pile on that a "feed" mode that turns off/down the pump would be very nice.)

Feed
Wave
Pulse
*Still be able at times to run mulitple vortech's all at full bore at same time!

that would be more than enough for me:)

***Hal....this should be it's own thread, i hope you start it as it might really give them an extra thought or two that might actually get incorporated since they are still designing/producing them!!

No controller included. It would be nice if you ordered two or more, you would get a break on the upgrade *hint hint*. I only want the portion to allow wireless. The rest isn't too big of a deal with me.

What upgrade, are you talking about? Is there some deal to be had if I buy two? Where should I buy these to ensure that I get the upgrade?

It is tough to get truly random flow all across your tank with any one pump plus some return flow.

The VorTech in the center back drives a very broad, diffuse flow off the front and sweeps left and right with prejudice. And it isn't even all the way up

The pulsing Tunzes each on their own single controllers that are, randomly out of sync, stir it up and provide a very nice surging effect in the display. The Tunzes have a much more focused, less diffuse flow pattern. If EchoTech had controllers, I might be doing this with all VorTechs.

Come on Bax! Are ya chicken to adopt early???

I've been playing around with this MP40 for over a year now first in my 75 and now in the 120. It was sick flow in the 75

Luv it!

I am looking forward to getting a pair of MP40's with the controler when it comes out for the 260 project.

Check this out...

So Don Nguyen just opened up my Tunze 6025 and found it worn with a broken shaft. Here are the pics:

Worn 6025

A bit strange indeed since I just got the thing. Perhaps it was all the snails messing it up, but it seems unlikely. Whatever the case, this PH does not seem to be up to Tunze standards. :(

Well I thought you guys would find that interesting.

Anyway, the refurb pump you sent back is operating without any noise at this point. It didn't take long to settle in, and it definitely has much more magnetism.

The only issue I see right now is that it is currently running at 147.1F. I guess my question is, does that mean it's rubbing inside and I need to do something about it?

I have two that are rattling right now and the one that is at a higher than desired temp. I hope you guys can get me a new unit out soon so I can use it to swap out the ones going in for service!

Jon-

Email us, it's a lot simpler.

As for the temp though, that's a significant amount higher than we measured on our test tank, and we ran your pump for some time. What is the ambient temperature in your tank room? If I were to guess, your tank room probably runs hot. Ambient temp will have an effect on the operating temperature of our pump. The other thing is that it takes about a week for the pump to break-in once its installed, so you should probably give it some time. Eitherway, we'll chat via email.

Well, that's a good point. My tank room typically runs 78F - 80F...maybe I need fans blowing on the Vortechs? I did email recently regarding getting a 5th pump but haven't heard back. NBD, I know we will get it together! :)

What happened to this lively little thread? Did it move? Die? What? :D

Any updates on a release date for the controller? I havent seen anything lately. Did I miss an announcement? :smokin:
