Ecotech Vortech pumps

I was just wondering if the Votech pumps are really worth the money. Does any have or own any of these pumps and see a differences in the qaulity of their corals? I have a 65gal mixed reef but planning on adding more SPS. I know that lighting and water flow (along with good chemistry) will be the key factors in SPS growth and survival. Currently I have 2 mod Maxi jet 900 and it gives a pretty good flow but not sure if I should spend the money on the Vortech. I was thinking starting out with one MP40 (or do you think I need 2 MP40)? Basically is it worth the money?

I have a 55 mixed reef and upgraded to 2 mp 10's. My corals love the flow and are doing fabulous. My sand bed looks great. I was battling cyano before the upgrade and it is gone now. I think they are worth the money.

Ok sounds like a good pump. I just couldn't understand what the hype was about but if it helps with cyano and hopefully other algae problem than it might be worth it. I guess I can start out with 1 mp40 or should I go with 2 mp10? I might want a bigger tank in the future and don't want to buy more pumps so I'm leaning toward the mp40.

I love having the anti-sync feature. I have my mp10's in the reef crest setting. One ramps up while the other ramps down. It gives me good flow throughout the tank.

These are badass pumps that do live up to the hype, but don't expect them to be a miracle-cure for algae issues. They can reduce nutrients by keeping detritus suspended if your aquascape facilitates it, but that's no guarantee that it will fix your specific problem.

If you want to buy a really cool pump go ahead and get the Vortech. If you're having issues with cyanobacteria and nuisance algae invest the money in a GFO reactor instead, IMO.

These pumps are impressive. Love my MP10. Only had it for 3 weeks but my corals are loving it. Had a Tunze Nanostream before. Actually had 2. Granted they weren't on a controller but I still would give a slight edge to the Vortech IMO. I would think 2 MP10's would be nice in your tank.

I was a huge sceptic on these and was really on the fence like yourself and then my LFS hooked me up on a barely used mp10 for half the original cost and I use just the one mp10 on my 75 gallon and I have a ton of flow. Now I don't have sps, mostly lps and it works great. I could not be happier with my purchase and would recommend you get the mp40. I got the 10 because I had a smaller tank at the time and now wish I had the 40 so I didn't have to run mine near 100% power..

Getting an MP10 for my 29g biocube in a few weeks for a great deal. Now I just need LED's and I'll have a pimped out cube ready for any corals.

Yeah I have 1 mp 40 on my 125 gal reef, it is awesome. I do need another one. It is a good idea to have 2 becuase they talk to eachother so like some posts up above said while one is ramping down the other is going up. and on short pulse they alternate. Really get the corals dancing nicely

I love mine but it's not cure all. I paid 200 for a MP40w. No way I would pay 500$ for a new one. The flow is very nice in my90. I like that there are no wires in the tank and a single pump is all that's needed. Very clean look. The bad is they are not quiet. They sound like a transmission on a car, not loud but you can hear it spinning up and down. Wave pulse mode is unbearable

I have an mp-10 on my elso mini and run it on lagoon mode and love it. I have not figured out how to program it for night mode.

I have a 58 gallon tank (basically the same as a 65 but a little shorter) and I have a MP40 and MP10 both on reef crest (yellow) at 100%. I ran the tank with only the MP10 for a while and felt it was definitely lacking in flow for SPS, for any of the moderate flow corals that would have been fine.

I purchased an MP40 for my tank after one of my Koralia's died. Now I see what the hype is all about. I keep it in Reef Crest mode at about 50% speed. Can't really go more than that - sugar-fine sand. I will be replacing my other Koralia with a second MP40 soon. :)

I have a mp40 on my 65 and I am very unimpressed with it. I had just as much success with a modded maxi jet. My pump is loud and does not seem to give good ramdom flow. I have never seen any of my large polyp coral flowing back and forth. I would assume that if I bought another pump I would be able to get the flow that I want.
