FLOATING CANOPY TOP

Now that the tank is ALIVE, it’s time I work on the floating canopy top as the glare from the T5 is killing me.


So I place took the necessary measurement and make my order last week and yesterday noon it arrived…!!

The canopy top is made from 18mm thick plywood and oven baked to the same color as the doors.


On the top there is a 4mm ledge to hold on to my lighting fixture frame…

We took the door to the car factory and they must’ve mix and spray about a dozen times before they could get back the color closest to my door color.


Tips: Make the doorframes and canopy top at the same time, as it’s difficult to get back the exact color afterward.

Next was to removed my lighting frame……

And we got some guys to help place the canopy frame over the aluminum frame.

And this is how it looks like when completed

And with the T5 lights on….

From the end of the T5 tubes to the edge of the canopy frame is about 4cm so should be sufficient to block out those glares….


I will still need to make the center top piece to hide the protruding back of the LB reflector…..

Wow it looks amazing....I like the shallowness of the tank...Is that marble under the tank? How much does that weigh? Its very different I really haven't come across a red tank yet this is my first It definitly looks good though and stands out Great Job

actually and I havent stolen any frags. Instead he took me out and bought me some frags...I have them posted But i am planning on stealing frags when he gets his flatworms under control dont want those guys running a muck in my tank LOL

Ed, that a nice light hood. i am having the thoughts of custom a red hood. to conceal my powermodul (6 tubes) and add 4 more t5 power by ice cap. great job.

Thanks N00bietanker - the material under the tank is artificial marble. Sort of a resin mix with marble powder and it's water proof.....


I wanted a stand to STAND OUT so after much consideration, Red was selected. It was a brave color to choose for a stand thou but I figure if the Italians can get away with their Ferrari in that color, why not me :rolleye1:

Good idea to get Ryan to fix his flatworm problems first... FW in a nano is a disaster IME

Do it....!! Red is a very bold color but you just have to make sure you choose the right shade of Red


I must have spray so many different shade of Red before I find the one I like
