Can't really tell from the picture but I think Eunicid worms are way more elusive than to be caught on the glass ( or you could have been very lucky?
In total I have taken 5 out of my tank 3 on my recen tank move while taking the rocks out and 2 in a very lucky/unlucky happening:
Got on drain line drilled in the bottom glass for connecting a mechanical filter or water changes... two huge worms somehow got into the line and must have been there for some time I guess. so as I was draining some water I saw them go out from the tube they were huge... that was the lucky part, the unlucky part is that one got suked by the pump supplying my frag tank and in less than a min the frag tank was cloudy, so was the sump and my skimmers were overflowing... will try to find the page on my build thread.

Did my weekly 10% WC and check my water params as below:
• Temperature â€"œ 26.0 degree C (light on)
• Salinity Gravity â€"œ 35ppt (Calibrated refractometer - 53ms Pinpoint Solution)
• NO3 â€"œ 0.00 (Salifert Test kit â€"œ same as last same)
• PO4 â€"œ 0.00 (D&D Test kit â€"œ down from last week 0.024)
• dKH â€"œ 7.5 (API test kit â€"œ up from last week 7.0)
• dKH â€"œ 8.0 (Elos test kit â€"œ up from last week 7.5)
• Ca â€"œ 420 (Salifert test kit â€"œ same as last week)
• Ca â€"œ 410 (Elos test kit â€"œ same as last week)
• Mg â€"œ 1170 (Salifert test kit â€"œ up from last week 1110)
• Mg â€"œ 1250 (Elos test kit â€"œ up from last week 1200)
• Potassium â€"œ380 â€"œ 390 range (Kz Test kit â€"œ same as last week)
All looks good. I’m very please my NO3 and PO4 continue to remains untraceable.
I might start dosing a little Mg to try to raise it to 1300 level but will see this coming 2 weeks as my Mg seem to raise a little this week with the Salinity slightly higher at 35ppt!!

MORE NEW FIN FRIENDS TO THE ED’S FAMILY
Over the weekend, more fin friends were added into Ed’s Shallow reef fins community.
With my open sandy area in my aquascape, it was only appropriate that I got a couple of these:
Hoplolatilus Family:
Hoplolatilus starcki (Blue Jaw Tilefish aka Starck's Tilefish)
They only come out when the actinic is on but once the MH comes on, they go back into hiding….
The blue color on the head is not obvious yet as this fish is super nervous â€"œ even worst than my dartfishes, so I guess it will takes them a few weeks before they show their true beauty!
I ordered Hoplolatilus purpureus (Purple Tilefish) but somehow my supplier got the orders mixed up and send me the wrong one :mad2:
On the other hand I do hear that the Purple Tilefish is often more difficult to feed and many suffer from decompression-related illnesses.
Oh well……still a great looker!!
Then I got his rare cousin….
Hoplolatilus marcosi (Skunk Tilefish)
One of them is already out swimming and eating.
This is a quote from an old article in RC
“A uniquely beautiful and appropriately named Hoplolatilus is the Skunk Tilefish, Hoplolatilus marcosi. Unfortunately, its deep natural home range, which starts at 100' and drops from there, generally makes this Tilefish a rarity in the hobby. Those that do arrive in the trade typically suffer not only from decompression sickness, but also from an inflated price tag. This is a misfortune to hobbyists because at four inches of length as adults, they are a great size and make an attractive addition to many home aquariums.â€Â
As with all deep-water fishes, I hope I’m able to acclimatize them sloooowly to my shallow reef â€"œ wish me luck!!
I couldn’t find the Hoplolatilus chlupatyi (Flashing Tilefish aka Chameleon Tilefish) available, as a pair of those will look really cool in my tank.
And this one is also out of 6 weeks quarantine…
Acanthurus Surgeonfish Family:
Acanthurus leucosternon (Powder Blue Tang)
With this, I no longer will try to get an Achilles Tang as two tang from the same family species could be a recipe for disaster :lol:
He is eating but on the skinny side so I will see what I can do to fatten him up.
My Purple tank didn’t exactly ‘welcome’ the PBT to the new reef as he is seen chasing him around the tank but the PBT seem to hold quite well on it’s own despised being only half the side of the Purple Tang.
I’ve kept the lights off to reduce aggression to give the PBT a chance to settle in
With Achilles off my list, will source for some rare Pygmy angels and more Wrasses instead….

- Apart from the African flameback, which I have experience keeping in the past, I’m not too sure how the rest will fair in captive as I hear the deeper water pygmy like Colin and Interruptus can be difficult to get it to eat and settle in?
- Anyway none of the above is easy to source here so will see what comes along in the coming months…..
In total a lot of fishes but most of them are nano fishes , with the exception of the Tangs, so it should be fine. Only thing I worried is I got a lot of jumpers in there so need to move quickly on a cover.

Hi Ed,
Been a while since I posted but I thought I would throw my 2 cents in regarding the Eunicids worm. I had corals randomnly disappearing in my tank for months until one night I saw what appeared to be a monster of "la chupacabra"ian proportions that was chowing down on one of my favorite SPS. I tried skewering it with a screw driver I had on hand but it was simply to quick.
Since then 3 fish have disappeared as well as significant damage to a large purple zoa colony, some Zenia, and a number of SPS. I saw it again last night and from its position hovering above my sand sifter I would bet the it was hunting my poor Goby.
Luckily I've sold off my tank anyways to tomorrow will be dedicated to hunting it down.
My best advice is to destroy anything that even resembles this beast before it gets big enough to do some serious damage.
BTW.... The tank looks awesome! Truly inspiring and definitely shaping up to be a work of art. Congratulations.

BTW, I went to the Southeastern Reef Conference this week end
it was very interesting, Bob Fenner talked about hitchhikers, Eric Borneman talked about creating the ideal reef aquarium and Scott Fellman talked about aquascaping for the aesthetically challenged, I was impressed to see how many examples he used that were of your 1st build! It almost seemed like he spoke to you about your entire set up! he talked about the golden ratio you described, the planning of your rocks, PVC you used, the list went on & on............................
Is Scott Fellman really you?????

Anyway your aquascaping skills were definitely the showcase for his seminar.
