Electrician here...If you need advice or help

tesla is extremely underated and under credited.... notariety/politics/big money all made sure of his place in history... it is a perfect example of how we should not trust media or big business or people who have fiscal interest

True that....most people don't even know who he is...the rest don't realize how much he did..and even fewer know that it is tesla we have to thank for just about every single electronic device we use today
His list of inventions and scientic formulas relaring to electrical made way for things like automobiles all sorts of motors a lot of his work is still under top secret security today from a 100years ago

Ok I am ready to ready to attempt replace a possible bad circuit breaker, one newbie question, do I need to shutdown the main breaker before attempting to replace?

I have read a few write up on circuit breaker replacement and non of them mentioned shutting down the main breaker?

TIA,
Ron

First shutting down the main would be a good idea for you...it will eliminate most live parts
But realize there is still live areas so use caution...electricians rule of thumb is there place both hands in the panel ....try to use only one hand and secondly try not to contact any metal parts

It is not difficult to do but it can be hazardous

Lastly I usually turn off the breaker to be replaced...pull it from the panel...then unscrew the wire from it...then the same reversal...put the wire pack on the new breaker then pop it in to place....it is easier to connect the wire out of the panel

Good luck

And I will ad this disclaimer.....you should use a certified electrician to perform the task...you assume all liability for any accidents that may occur...

BDS

please read the above and make sure there isnt a typo???

thanks? I want to make sure i understand you but it seems like maybe there might be a typo??

and yes, absolutely turn off the breaker... and then make sure the circuits are dead... they make a nice tester.. you just point it and kinda touch the outside of the insulation to detect voltage/HOT wires.... it is a 'pocket' type of tester... it has a plastic tip and a light and maybe a beep/buzzer?

then after testing to make sure it is dead, then yea, follow BDS....

I have seen some houses that were 'jerry rigged' and had some circuits fed from neighbor property or from before the meter to try to cheat edison.... etc....

HD has good books in thier diy section, you can read it while there and not buy the book or if you want to increase your library, get it and you can reference it over and over...:)
always check, and yes, this type of work has serious consequences and although many things look easy, it is always to check and have a professional supervise and or do the project....

Yeah...typo

One hand at a time in the panel.....sorry long day been out of control busy working and was replying from my phone...lol...at least I took a minute from my 15 hour day...sometimes it sucks being self employed

yea, i hate calling out 'typos' for some extremely apparent reasons hehehehe but that one was a key point/subject and wanted to make sure it got addressed.

thanks for clearing that up...

and for the exception of ONE thing, working for your self all the time, especially in the dollar per hour category... i am sure you either dont break it down that way completely, and or just know it isnt that number that makes it all worth while.

Yeah that was kinda a important part to typo on...lol

I always break it down to a dollar amount...I like to know where the value was...I bid per and I like to know I was on track whether I was underbid or overbid....I like to. If I am charging too much or too little or if circumstances caused it to take longer or shorter...I don't want to rip people off or short change myself

but do you keep track of the hours you spend at the stores or wholesalers or homedepot, or how much time you spend on paperwork/administration? and solicitation? and estimating?

factor all that into your hourly wage?

I tried to do the percentage for 'overhead', but i would go way over on that amount... the actual work was accounted for and tracked...

Thank you Paul for the electrical work. Your work is very clean and the price is awesome. Anytime I need work in the future I will definitely give you a call.
Highly recommend Paul!

Got a question. I am going to go for par 38 LED lighting of my tank. I was wondering about installing a cluster of recessed lights directly over the tank. Is this feasible? Tank is 32" square/cube? Will recessed par38 burn out? Can I cluster 4 of them in a 32x32 area?

Whoops

Hi bigdaddystar, Im getting a small electrical shock off the edge, and only the edge of my T5 light unit, but only when the hand touching the edge is wet. Any ideas? Thanks Paul.

Sorry...been busy....yeah you could do recessed lights right in the ceiling I think you are meaning right?.....pretty easy....and they can be ran down into your tank to a controller or timer....let me know if you want me to install it...I will give you great deal

And that sounds like a good clean idea....if it is not close enough you may want to consider hanging pendants too

Most likely going to be a wire issue contacting the fixture....a lot of times wires get pinched or caught on the corners of the fixture or reflectors internally...just enough to get you but not do any harm to the fixture....if you have a continuity meter here's how you can check...make sure the light is off and unplugged...remove the lamps...put one probe from the meter to ground(any exposed metal part preferably near where you are getting shocked but not on paint gotta be bare metal) then take the other probe and go to each connector (tombstones) 2 on each side of the lamp....if it rings the meter or shows any resistance value you have a short....if it does not you have to check before the ballast.same thing one to ground and the other too any elecgtricity carrying. Wires
