Elegance

When my tank is up and running in another month I will be wanting to keep an elegance coral. I never had any luck on my past tanks. Any advice ahead of time?

Yes. I would wait. Or better yet, hold off completely. Elegance corals are best left in the ocean and fit the "rent-a-coral" mantra shared by Goniopora. If you decide to keep one, use low to moderate indirect flow under low to medium lighting.

I have 5 elegance corals 4 indos and 1 Australian they are definitely not a rent a coral and I have the indos about 5 years 3 are frags from my original. my Australian is 1 year old. with that being said I would wait and get your tank more established. elegances are not as hardy as they once were. I would give your tank at least a year. I would also recommend that you get an ausi. I keep mine on the sand and have them under leds . I have a wavemaker that gives them random currents

Elegance and anything Austrailian costs big dollars. It might be more practical for a newbie to start with some leathers or mushrooms rather than dive into the coral thing wallet-first. No?

If you've not had luck in the past, I suggest not trying again. Why continue to kill animals?

I'm on my second (lost my first due to an extended power outtage a couple years ago). My first was an assie that did very well, my current one is cultured and coming around nicely (had it about 2 months, was in so-so shape when I got it.

I agree with the advice above... if you insist on trying one again, good, stable water params, moderate light and moderate flow.

Why keep anything if you are afraid that it's going to die? I am switching from typical skimmer tank to an algae turf scrubber. Also doing an evil cluster led setup and using wp 25's for a gyre-flow type setup. ( that's what I'm hoping for anyway ) it wasn't my intention to put an elegance in the tank 3 weeks after it's cycled I was just hoping for some helpful information prior to my tank setup? More like shooting the breeze about a future purchase that I'd like to make. Yes the previous ones were indo's

I think I gave about 40 dollars for my elegance at a frag swap. I love the growth

have gotten over the last year.

a frag of an existing one from a local reefer has a much better chance than an unkown lfs elegance.... lots cheaper usually, too
