I'd guess one that's 12 x 6 x 6.

Your scribble or emperor will be fine there for few days
You can also put them in the sump too if you need more time.

4" maybe, they need to be able to turn around in the box and feel somewhat comfortable.

Kind of funny, actually. Remind me of my College days when I had a pair of Oscars in a 20 long. Always figured there was about 18 gallons of fish and 2 gallons of water

Built my own acclimation box out of some 1/4 acrylic I had laying around. Ended up being about 16x12x8 which I figure is big enough for most fish for a few days.
