Elliott's Reef: 900g DT , 400g sumps

Thanks for the input Elliott,...I'm thinking about getting 4 or 5 cucumbers and have given them some thought in the past, but was also concerned about their ability to release toxins if their startled or die. My water volume is +1000gal, so maybe they wouldn't skewer the system if one should release.

I'm still LCing my rock and have the first batch done, to where I get 0.00 on my Hanna a few days in a row...YEAY! I'm not sure if my sand is leaching,...it doesn't get any gha but I can see some green under the sand at the glass,...maybe normal but this is the reason I'm considering the Cucumbers.

Anyhow have a good Sunday:thumbsup:---Rick

either way you should be fine, not sure I'd add more than one cucumber, unless you like them

Think I'm looking for the type that burrows in the sand,...but unless it starts to follow me back and forth in the tank and eventually take food from my hand,...don't think I'll become attached.:lmao:

Amazing reef Elliott. most be rewarding to see that all the hard work has paid off..

thank you for sharing it with us...

thank you noel754g1, the work aspect is really not much of a burden since I enjoy it, would be impossible otherwise, sort of like gardening I guess, therapeutic :)

Hi Elliott,...question for you,...which brs doser pump do you use for feeding, the 1.1 or 50ml pump? Do you know of a way/pump to push a little heavier food through without clogging the line up? Thanks,---Rick

Hi Rick!

I use the BRS 1.1 ml pumps. There are Cole Parmer peristaltic pumps that can handle thicker material but they are cost prohibitive IMO, easier to just dilute the material and pump more to compensate for the dilution. BTW, I've had several BRS 50 ml pumps fail, used them to top of evaporative loss, so I no longer use those. The 1.1 ml pumps have been working for years without problems.

Thanks Elliott,... I have a 1.1ml also that I use for vinegar dosing. It's been running for years, daily,..several one minute intervals. Just bought a new replacement tube for it,...figure this sucker has to let go sometime :lmao:

I was asking about larger foods, because I like your idea of dosing Reef Nutrition: Oyster feast, Roti feast and Phyto feast for filter feeders and the idea of keeping it all in the fridge, but I would like to send larger foods for the fish, like your ice cubes. My fridge next to my sump is one of those small college dorm type. I would make up small portions(so it don't spoil), and put the foods in a small bottles to be pumped into the tank with a dosing pump of some sort. Might not be doable,...just a thought.---Rick

that appears to handle large bore hose, however you would need the control unit to operate it, which would be an additional cost

however you probably can find a used one that would be cost effective
