Elliott's Reef: 900g DT , 400g sumps

I read your posts Andrew,....I'm looking into them. I believe I now have my rock leaching PO4 problem solved, and thought the sand might still be leaching also,...but now I'm not so sure as the tanks PO4 seems to stay in the 0.03 to 0.04 range :D. I thought the cucumbers would help remove algae in the sand, but now I'm not sure if there would be food for them. I do plan on getting some as I "feel/can see" a need.---Rick

Hi Elliott,...here is another one http://www.ebay.com/itm/121245234459?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT,...I like its foot print, and speed control. All I would need then is a timer for the on /off part of the equation,... Like this one http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/ecoplus-dual-digital-timer.htmlthat I use on my 1.1ml doser

that should work fine :)

Rick I'm going to be doubling or tripling my cucumber population after what I saw in tahiti.

I'm mesmerized by your new build Andrew, WOW

Hey Elliott,...another question please,...what types of foods are you using for your ice cube feeder? Are the ice cubes for feeding your fish primarily? Thanks,---Rick

Hi Rick, I make ice cubes that fit inside each pvc tray, usually a combination of Rod's food, cyclopeeze, mysis, garlic and selcon. The ice cubes are primarily for fish but corals pick up some as well. Corals are fed primarily by liquid dosing in the fridge.

Understand ,...Thanks Elliott! I want to know what you use primarily for feeding your fish. I want to try larger foods with the peristaltic pump I bought on ebay,...the id of the tubing is 3/16.---Rick

primarily Hakari frozen mysis and cyclopeeze

Hi Elliott,...haven't seen any new posts lately,...wondering if you have found any cool new stuff to add, from your lfs's lately.:)---Rick

You know, just a quick search for a Cole Parmer with larger hoses,...I see them at $50 on up,...of course they are used. This one appears to be a double head model. Would need to research further the motor control, and might be a bit large in my little fridge, but it a start.

Are these pumps similar to the new DOS from Apex? They are both high quality dosing pumps with stepper motors capable of very fine and accurate feeds. Correct?
Anyone have any sources?
Seems like a great idea.

Daniel.

Apex dosing pump is a peristaltic pump similar to the type Cole Parmer makes. Cole Parmer is a medical grade pump, very high quality. I have not seen the Apex pump.

You can find quite a few on ebay. I believe most of them come from the medical field and are offered on ebay by resellers. The links state their working condition,...operational or parts only.
I bought this one for $75(made an offer) its hoses are 1/4"ID. I'm planning to use it for feeding larger frozen foods,...haven't tried it yet, but I think it should work.---Rick

Are the Cole Parmer pumps programmable, or do you just set them up as a standard dosing pump on Apex control?
I'm looking forward to updates too...

Daniel.

The one I bought is controlled with a digital timer(1min. minimum),...like a brs doser you can calculate its ml out put in one minute,...and your good to go.

Hey Elliott,...another question about your 150gal quarantine tank if you don't mind. I see there are two overflows and some tank dividers,...I think you said that the tank is on its own separate system. My question is,...if you buy fish at different times and the first batch might been in quarantine for a month (looking ok) and then you add some new fish in the next section,...how are the first fish(ready to move to DT) protected from any virus the new fish might bring in with them? Thanks in advance,---Rick
