Emperor Angel 1 week in QT

My aquarium (6Lx2.5Wx2H) has been cycled at ready for fish since Feb 2013.
I have only added a few corals and a clean up crew.

Just wanted to show off my first fish. He's in a 33 gallon QT. I have not treated with anything. He does not show signs of ich, worms or any type of parasites. He still has about another 21 days in here before he's good to go. Unless something rears its ugly head!

He's about 5" from nose to end of tail. Eats pellets and everything else I through his way. I soak all my food and add kent essential elements as per JC Marine.

Just wanted to share.

Thanks for looking.

Very nice..they sure are gorgeous fish ..Looks like he may develop a streamer ...Now that would be nice

Very nice fish. Emperor is one of my favorite angels and I have one too. Good luck with yours and have fun with him.

I really wanted to raise a juvenile but wanted an Emeperor with a streamer more. So I went with an adult. You can still see some juvenile markings on him but they are hardly noticeable.

You are right, they are gorgeous fish!

A good looking Emperor. Were you always planning to add him first? What other fish are you planning to add?

Yes I was.

I had planned to let the main tank mature and stabilize for 6 months then add him.

Currently in the take now is just a clean up crew, corals, 3 anemones and 3 cleaner shrimp.

After the emperor I plan on adding a group of group of chromis (9), royal gramma, 2 per clowns, yellow watchman goby, neon goby, and a hippo tang. Maybe another fish but can't think of one right now. All QT'd for at least 4 weeks

I know the emp will get big so I am making sure he have the most room I can give him.

Awesome Emp . I have one also but i would treat with cuppramine and prazi before going into the DT. Just not worth the aggrevation if something breaks out after he's in the DT.

I purchase prazipro and wanted to let the emp settle before I treat.

I have never treated with cupramine and I am kinda nervous to. He looks so helathy. I have read a lot of info on cupramine on this forum, it seems easy enough. I just don't want to make a mistake!

I understand how you feel, but the mistake would be not treating at all. if youre nervous about overdosing just dose half the amount until you reach the required level. I use Salifert copper test kits. I have treated every angel in my tank with cuppramine with no issues. Good luck.

Would you dose Prazi before Cupramine?

Would you dose Prazi before Cupramine?

I usually do one treatment of Prazi before I start Cupramine, following by a second treatment concurrent with Cupramine. Just ramp up the Cupramine slowly so the fish tolerates it (I do 0.5ml/day until I reach 0.40mg/l concentration -- usually takes 5 days to ramp).

curious, why are you qt him for only 28 days?

It will probably be longer.

I am not going to start prazi until after 2 weeks of QT.

I know most people recommend 6-8 weeks.

The emp just appears to be so vibrant and eats so well. I have had fish years ago that would have visible signs of infection that would need treatment.

I know its preventative but this is the first fish that, so far, seems in great shape.

My plan was just to observe for 2 weeks and treat with Prazi for 2 weeks. If everything checks out then into the DT.

Curious to hear your thoughts. I have followed enough of your posts to have a good idea of your recommendations but don't want to assume.

8-10 weeks would really help ensure the fish is in great condition...

That is one beautiful emperor! I agree with humaguy, quarantine is better safe than sorry. If you get impatient and run 4 weeks rather than 8-10, you could be looking at the tank fishless for an 8 week fallow if something goes wrong. Also, I'm wondering why you chose the emperor as the first fish? They can get quite aggressive and territorial, so most opt to add them last, or close to it. Either way, that is one stunning specimen! I can't wait to see more pictures when he's a little bigger :) love the streamer!

Cupramine is the safest copper. Just do quarter doses, ramping it up. I treated my Emperor both with Cupramine, and Prazipro for 5 weeks. You'd be surprised what these fish carry. It's either flukes, or ich. Unseen too.

Here's my Emp when he was in quarantine.
