"Empty Refillable Cartridges"

After buying new DI cartridges for 7 years I decided I'd try ordering the bulk DI resin and refilling them myself. Two Part Solutions sells "Empty Refillable Cartridges".

I looked at the cartridges I already have to see if I could figure out how to get the plug out of either end so I could simply refill them. I couldn't see how they would come out without tearing up the cartridges.

I order 20# of resin and two "Empty Refillable Cartridges". It came yesterday. I opened the box and the "Empty Refillable Cartridges" had a simple "screw the end cap off" like a mayonnaise jar. "Kewl" I though. That will be simple! Today I took one of the old ones out to replace it. Guess what? The cartridges I already had were identical! Duh!

So, if you want to refill yours don't buy any "Empty Refillable Cartridges". If the ones you've already got don't have screw off ends, I sell you a couple cheap. That is my dumb thing to do for October. Tomorrow is a whole new month though. I think I'll just order about 1500 snails. Anybody want some real cheap when I get them?

Well atleast you didnt' buy a new RoDi unit just to get the refillable cartridges. Now that would have been bad.. FWIW you can still use the new ones with your old ones if you want.. The more DI you run the less you have to change it!

Yeah, but I only have a place for 2.

Be careful with how much replacement resin you buy at one time. A good rule of thumb is to buy no more than you'll use in 9 months.

Even if tightly sealed and kept out of the light, mixed bed resin will lose capacity over time just because the anion and cation beads are next to each other.

Well, that will compound the dumb mistake! I'm still gonna charge that one to October.

My snails will be here Wednesday. That will count for November and December. I'll bet I won't have any algae by Thanksgiving!

I want some snails. Let me know when they come in. Thanks, Monica

They "should" be in some time Wednesday. I'll call you when they come.
