Encrusting hitchhiker ID please!

The Escaped Ape

In The Canopy
This came attached to an Acan echinata I've just purchased. Any ideas what it might be? I know it's not a particularly exciting color, but I'd like to keep it alive if I can (no other SPS in the tank).

Grateful for any advice. :)

Hard to tell specifically but I would bet on a encrusting montipora species. You should be able to keep that with no problems, browns are very hardy typically.

Definitely looks like a montipora species as Softhammer said. I would suggest to put that as high in your tank as you can with moderate flow. It should begin to color up in a month or so and it would be interesting to see what color morph it is.

Thanks both! Luckily I have a 150w MH and a not particularly deep tank, so I should be able to provide enough light. Trouble is my aquascape doesn't have rocks ideally placed. I might have to be creative about placement...

Thanks again for the help. :)
