Eric's 300Gal Build!

The LEDs really mess with the camera. Even a DSLR. I had significantly more trouble taking pics of my tank under LED than I do now with the halide or T5s.

If you have any yellow sunglasses or blue blockers, take a picture through them and you will notice a huge difference.

Yes they do but its not as bad with DSLR as it is with phones, atleast in my case but colors still get all mess up regardless.

Great build. We had almost the exact same setup. Tank from glasscages, lights, in wall stand was only difference. However mine turned into a catastrophe. You can read here. Everything was perfectly level, and then.....:( New acrylic tank is amazin though! Got 3/4 inch just to be "safe." Hope yours is different than mine! ;)

Sorry to hear about your tank... Looks like you had the Tall version. Mine is 25in tall and 30inches wide. I haven't had time to read all of your build thread but it looks like you had issues leveling the stand and you also didn't use a 3/4" sheet of styrofoam like it is required with all tank that have a flat bottom (no trim) including acrylic. Im glad you were able to get another tank and looks like the insurance is taking care of the damages so thats good.

I will give that a try. Thanks

looks great you are happy with the lights. I am working on a new 24x24 cube and was looking at that fixture.

The lights have only been on for about an hour if that since the tank was currently going through the cycle there was no need for the lights to be on, so I can't really give you my opinion just yet. What I have notice so far is that I can clearly see some green and red shadows on my rock from the red and green led's in the fixtures. Not sure if this is because all my rock is dry rock and it has a white look to it. Once the rocks start to turn brown and coraline algae begins to grow that should go away, if it doesn't then I might go a different route with the lighting for this tank.

Wow great job! I would be worried about waste build up later on with the rock structure and sand mixture? I have that now in my 55 and took some rock out and have had to do a lot of water changes after stirring up the sand. Everything looks great and I can't wait to do mine!!

Just read the entire thread. Excellent build looking forward to seeing this tank being filled with fish.
Well done.

I personally never touch the sand or vacuum it for that same problem. Always done it this way and never had a problem. Lets hope it stays like that lol

Thank you"¦ At the moment I only have a pair of clownfish, blue tang, and 3 green chromis. In a few more weeks I'll begin to add more fish.

Great looking tank

Thanks

Update: 01/26/2015

Last Monday I added 2x clowns, 1x Blue Tang, 3x Green Chromis and a wrasse (can't think of the name now). So far they are all doing good and no signs of ammonia or nitrites in the tank.

Today I picked up this red monti cap from a friend, its about 12 inches in diameter.

I have a shipment of fish coming in tomorrow that include the following"¦

15x Small Green Chromis
1x Smith's Blenny
1x Green Clown Goby
1x Yellow Clown Goby
1X Tailspot Blenny
1x Yellow Watchman Blenny
1x Sailfin Tang
1x Pulcher Blenny

Beautiful work. The stand came out great. What stain did you end up using? Im inspired to do something similar on my 180 upgrade.

Wow great build thread love how you included every little detail! Tank looks incredible. Can wait to see more of it

Great build,

I also started a 300 build thread and am tagging along for ideas! Pretty sure we have the exact same tank as well! Looking forward to seeing both grow!

Nice tangs as well,

JIM

love the powder brown, might make for an interesting QT with all the tangs in there, might need to throw in some egg crate dividers..lol

They've been in there for a week and none have shown any aggression towards each other so far. I have other tanks I can move them if they start showing aggression.
