Eric's 300Gal Build!

Time to dig out my 1-1/2" gate valve and 3x 1-1/2" sanitary T's from this pallet of Spears PVC fittings.

This thing is bigger than what I expected. (Highlighter is for size reference)

The monster has arrived! This thing is HUGE!!! (Water bottle for size reference)

I also wanted to mention that BRS has top notch customer service. When I unpacked everything I could not find the skimmer pump nowhere in the box so I quickly e-mail Nick from BRS and told him the pump was nowhere to be found. It seems like when the skimmer was packed at the manufacture (CoralVue) the pump was never put in the box because the box was sealed and it didn't look like it had been opened and re-sealed again"¦ Long story short, Nick apologized for the inconvenience and told me he would talk to CoralVue to try and solve this issue. 30 minutes later I get an email from Carlos at CoralVue telling me a new pump is on the way.

In the meantime while I wait for the new pump here is a picture of the monster!

Small update!

Yesterday I got up early and ran two lines of 14 gauge wire for two 15amp circuits dedicated just for the tank. I also ran a Cat5e line to have a wired connection for the Apex Controller, the main reason for this is the avoid having to remove the apex when upgrading the firmware since updates are not recommend over a wifi signal.

I also ran a 1/4" and 1/2" line of Mur-Lok Polyethylene RO tubing. The 1/4" line will be connected to the RO/DI unit to fill the ATO container and the 1/2" line will be connected to my mixing pump in the garage so that I can pump freshly made saltwater to the sump during water changes.

Didn't take many pictures when I was doing this but here are they ones I have.. More to come!

Not my favorite work area lol. The nice thing is that it rained all day so it was not 150 degrees in there

All done! I still got room to add more circuits for future tanks"¦ Just kidding! :)

I couldn't get any work done on the stand yesterday since I spend most of the day dealing with the cat5e cable trying to get a connection at the other end and it wasn't till this morning when I solved the issue with Wayne's help.

Wen't to Lowes today and bought a few pieces pine boards to make a face frame for the stand the cover the ugly 2x4's and this is what I got so far, just need to add some trim and order the doors then on to build the canopy!

Side face frame complete

Joining the side face frame to the front face frame with wood glue and pocket holes

Done for the night"¦ I used wood glue and 2" brad nails to attach the face frame to the stand.

You know this is going to be a serious build when a forklift needs to be involved!

When lifting 900 pounds of rock and sand a Forklift is a must! :hmm5:

Only 300lbs of rock and 240lbs of sand belong to me, the rest belong to a friend who ordered some for his new tank.

Update 10/01/2014

As you all know I ordered my tank from Glass-Cages so I went ahead and ordered the glass for my sump as well and planned on putting it together myself. Out of the 5 pieces of glass that I ordered somehow the two side pieces didn't get put in the package with the other 3 pieces. I didn't open the package till Monday of last week (09/22/14) when I wen't to put the sump together so I had no idea those two pieces were missing. I called Glass-Cages and explained what happen. The lady I spoke with said she would need to talk to the owner and would call me the following day which she did. She said they will be shipping me the 2 pieces via UPS free of charge.

When I heard the news about their business burning down I figured I would not get the glass since it happened only two days after I talked to them but it turned out Glass-Cages did not burn down in the fire, it was the business next to them. I got confirmation the two pieces were going out on Monday and I received them today. As I said before the glass was sent via UPS so I was worried that instead of receiving two pieces of glass I would get hundreds of pieces but Glass-Cages did a really good job in packing the glass.

It arrived inside the styrofoam "box" which was packed in a thick double layer cardboard box.

I decided to go ahead and put the sump together since it will need to cure for a while, this way it will be ready for when I fill the tank. I prepped all the pieces by cleaning them with denatured alcohol and taping along the edge to avoid getting silicone all over the glass (still managed to get silicone on a few spots but will easily be cleaned once it dries)

Front and Back panels

The silicone I used was RTV 100 series silicone and this stuff dries quick so I couldn't take pictures of the process but here is the finished product. Will it hold water? Im sure it will but I will let you guys know when I perform a leak test. Btw the sump is 60x25x18
