Euro-Reef Eheim NW Thread

Lunchbucket
I just modded a sedra 3500 on a er 5-30 with mesh from mavgi. It filled the collection cup full of dry, dense, brown foam till the lid lifted up and overflowed.
an hour later it calmed down and I had a full cup of dark tea colored skimate with chunks.
It was unreal!!!!

Rip Current

i glad to hear it :D

it's hard to believe but this is the best modify IMO , and the result amazed .

did you measure how much air and watt the pump pull i realy want to know how it's on the sedra 3500.

Lunchbucket

i did it on the sedra 5000 and you can see it in the link and now rip current do it on the sedra 3500 :) by the way it's work on all the pump.

Mavgi,
I dont have air flow meter or watts meter sorry.

This is the best mod you can do for the money.
You can take a cheap pump and make it outperform the best needlewheel pump out there!!

Rip, & Mavgi I also have a 5-3, and am interested in the mesh mod. Can you give me any specifics? I'd followed this whole thread, but it's been awhile and didn't recall any diy steps.
thanxs.

click on this link you can see the how the pump work before and after the mod. it's very easy ans simple , if you need any help let me know .

Looks promising, though I'll need to find a new/used sedra 3500 impeller that is not a needlewheel. Where did you source the mesh from, or did I miss that in the link you sent? Gutterguard?

hmm...i might need some mesh.

anyone know where to get a plain 3500 impeller?

Lunchbucket

if i am not wrong all the wheel impeller disk size are the same (diameter and fitting) you can verify that in phone call and if it's correct you can buy the cheapest impeller from this link and use with the wheel disk (you can use your and keep the new one)

here is the link :

GREAT INFO BUT I NEED SOME HELP HERE
I listened to my LFS and got a package reef deal. It came with a PM Bullet 2. Nice enough but after 5 months in the hobby and much research I think I made a terrible mistake. I have a 90 gal w/ 30 gal sump. I see by this thread ER has a new impeller and Eheim pump combo. Looks like ER has easy to use in sump models that will out perorm my Bullet on every level. So most of you have your set up but are upgrading and changing stuff up so what is the ultimate set up for under tank in sump application. The absolute best. Money is not an issue. Function and space is my only concern. If I get some agreement here I'll place the order this week!!!! HELP!!!!

Needlewheels in general produce about 2x as many bubbles as the same pump in a beckett or venturi application.... some, like the Tunze NW or ATI units made by SICCI, are even greater. 20 watts to make about 1000lph of air throughput. Their disadvantage is that Needlewheels dont handle head-pressure as well, and so there are very few 6' needlewheels out there... but there are many 6' becketts.

For most people's home applications, the needlewheel is the better buy, and so the ER would be part of that, as well as the fauna-marin ultra-skim, Octopus turbine skimmers, ATI Bubblemaster, Royal Exclusiv Bubblekings, ASM, ReefMania, GEO, Deltec, H&S, Klaes, AquaMedic, Tunze, etc. All are excellent skimmers that have their own features and benefits as you go up in price.
