I bought a used euro-reef from a guy. I dont know the model # but it is 24'' tall and 5'' diameter. It has the sedra 3500 with it. I am wanting to use this on a 150tall with a 40g sump. I was wondering if there is any way to mod it? Would swiching the pump help? What is the best size to go with? Sedra 5000 or 9000? Do these need to be modded by euroreef? Do you carry them andf how much?

Thanks
Floyd

Hi Floyd,

Your best bet is to upgrade to a Sedra 5000. It sounds like you have an old CS6-2 when they switched back to the 3500 on that unit, and made the CS6-2+ with the 5000. You might have to do some small mods to get it to line up perfectly, but it should still work out for you. ASM Sedra 5000 we carry should fit the bill just fine.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Hi Floyd,

As an update to this...... I forgot all about the old CS5-3 skimmers being 24" tall and only 5" diameter. The max pump you could put on this would be the 3500, and not the 5000.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Why would the 5000 not work? Are there any mods to do to the skimmer itself to make it preform better? Do you think it will be to underpowered for a 150? I can do a meshwheel mod to the pump.

The 5000 would have to be throttled back on the air inlet to not overpower the skimmer. If you did that, it would then pump too much water through the skimmer. You're basically going to be stuck either way you went with the 5000, it's just too much pump for that volume chamber.

You could do a meshwheel, which would probably work great at first, but the integrity of the mesh impeller degrades over time.

Thanks,
Jeremy
