jmoney - i highly doubt that your salinity being that high would cause your problems. i run my tank at 1.027 and have no problems

iun your cubed food is there any gel binders?? check you package

i dont believe so, its the omega brand frozen brine shrimp, i stopped feeding that just incase thats is what caused it, they tested my water to make sure there was nothing wrong with it, and i took all but 1 sponge out of the rena xp3 and packed the rest full of carbon so if there was detergent in there it would have gone by now

is there no chance that since the water is not RO that this is happening? we have high ph here in the south

it's something in your water. never heard of pH or SG doing that.

check your food. omega has quite a bit of gel bingers in most of thier foods i think

its been about 24 hours since i have fed that i will wait another day and try again to get the skimmer running

well its overflowing still but i just fliped the lid over and im letting it run, in the morning ill dump out the water that got in there in 10 seconds, but im wondering if this thing just really needs to break in, i know its not setup wrong because i had it setup the exact same way in their tank and it worked just fine

I have a CS6-1 skimmer. I bought it used... when I received it the rubber ring that is on the body itself (where the pump tube connects to the skimmer body) is loose. Should that be loose or should I silicone it up to make a seal. I'm currently running it with it loose and I'm getting good skimmate.

angelo, from what i have read (my skimmer is on the way) that rubber seal is the only complaint people have with euroreefs. there are other skimmer bodies made better with unions sealed into the cast acrylic.

its only an issue if used outside of the sump, which it is not "intended" for. its just a simple cost cutting issue.

fortunately, it doesnt affect performance and yes, ive heard of people using silicone to seal them up.

you all should do more reseach before you too proud of your skimmers because not thing will beat wayen skimmer for 30 bucks only

like i said do reseach on reef central .com because i don't know how to link those threats but it suprised me for 30 bucks the wayen skimmer works like those big money skimmers no pumps to waste the electronic either

No link there at all . Oh and there are a few other threads about skimmer which cost even more go give them some hell I am sure they will enjoy

pp, I think its great you found a superior skimmer for $30.

I think the best thing to do in this situation would be to start a "waylen" club thread, and not to troll around the "euro-reef" club thread

That way, everyone on RC can bennefit from your discovery!
