Ahh, I have the cs8-1. Do you think the Eheim would work on this skimmer? The skimmer is only 20" tall btw. Thanks for all the info.

i am sure in 100% that on the cs8-1 you will get a better result .

my skimmers are 30" and it's a big different.

Wow! This sounds promising! How easy was it to modify the existing hole on the skimmer to accept the Eheim? Did you plug it up and drill a new hole?

if you have the old sedra pump with the 3/4" elbow you will not need to drill nothing. it will match to the skimmer body (i try that on my cs8-3) you will need just to put little piece of electric tape on the pump outlate since it's little smaller. i will check it again and measure the hole high on the skimmer body and i will put here the info to be sure in 100% . i test my cs8-3 with 2 pumps run on it and it was :
2 genx 6000
1 genx 6000 + sp3-c
1 genx 6000 + eheim
1 sp3-c + eheim

so i not remmber exactly :) but tomorrow i will get more item and when i disconnect the pump i will measure it again and post here the info.

just curious. i have a euro cs180. what types of mods out there are available for this skimmer to make it better than it already is.

thanks

i am not sure but i think you run on this skimmer with the sp4 pump , it's pretty good pump to this skimmer body. i can give you some idea and i believe that others member will put more note here:

first you can try to put the skimmer in a square bucket inside your sump and to adjust your drain to the bucket in this way the skimmer will have more time to collect the protein and the pump will be close to the surface . (i test that before and it's work) you can read big post here by Anthony Calfo about this option.

second you can modify the impeller as a lot of great hobbyist try to do it here and in other forum but you will need to buy some spare impeller and some other material to try that.

you can check in the diy forum and find some more info.

it's depend if you want to get into it or to enjoy from the result you have.:)

i can tell you honest if you going to start with it you will never stop because all the time you will look for another better result and better performance it's like a voodoo ;) you will find yourself looking on your sump and skimmer more then on your display tank.

Im looking to upgrade from a proclear skimmer my lfs sold me months ago for my 65 reef. I was thinking of a euroreef, which would you guys suggest. I was looking at the RS100, is this a cheaper model for euroreef, does it not work as well as others they sell? Thanks for your input.

Yeah, im not alone.   You may just end up seting up external tables & stands so you can better observe your skimmers as you test them. You know the best way to look at bubbles is with a flashlight in a dark room. Man that skimmer voodoo got me

Mavgi, im making some time today to run some more tests. Im still not sure how you compressed the DLS to set low enongh to fit in the pump with out rubing? how many tie straps did you use?

Correction !! from a earlier post I made. I’m sorry I forgot to post this here.

I found that their was acrylic shavings in the impeller, so my earlier post was inaccurate. The shavings were from me modifying my big skimmer to test some impellers. ( I think my flow meter reads a little low, not positive)
I cleaned out the impeller and tested it again.

FWIW my test results from the ER Gen-x 6000

Water head 6", - SCFH 41, = 1161 LPH, - Watts 47 .
Water head 12", - SCFH 33, = 934 LPH, - Watts 50 .
Water head 18", - SCFH 28, = 793 LPH, - Watts 53 .
Water head 24", - SCFH 25, = 708 LPH, - Watts 59 .
Water head 30", - SCFH 23, = 651 LPH, - Watts 62 .
Water head 36", - SCFH 19, = 538 LPH, - Watts 65 .
Water head 42", - SCFH 18, = 510 LPH, - Watts 66 .
Water head 48", - SCFH 17, = 481 LPH, - Watts 68 .
Water head 54", - SCFH 15, = 425 LPH, - Watts 69 .

well removing the copper did it, this skimmer has roared to life the tank water cleared greatly, but my skimmate is still a little watery, what can i do to fix this problem just raise and lower the riser tube?

Hi Roland

iit will be very hard to put them on the pins , i cut the pins from the impeller and make 1 more hole to each hole that was exist on the impeller and then i put one cut the center to match to the hole and the same to the 2 others. i give you the promotion to do it on my impeller just because i know how it will excite you:lol:
(i will buy one more after) here is the picture how it's look like:

by the way if you will connect the pump direct to the skimmer body without the elbow i beleive you will read at least 20l/min
because the less pressure.

here is one more picture with the eheim pump how the skimm keep working from yesterday.

i need to go now after i will back and make some more test.

roland if you need me i will pm to you my cell #

an't no way im cutting up that ER pin wheel, that thing is great.

i have 2 other stock gen-x impellers. 1 paddle /nw and 1 water only type, that i allready have cut the blade off of. I'm using those for testing.
Im checking the ER pin wheel in the stock gen-x 6000 pump to see if it pulls the same as the ER pump. i have a feeling it will, i think it all about the impeller and that oversized spacer.

not sure but i believe the spacer plays a good part in the performance. i made one like it before to minimize water to air ratio. i have to test the gg again the tie straps were rubing against the housing... effected the watts and the air. ill post the results on the "my NW kick bums thread".

Great! I appreciate all your work Mavgi.

i mesure the hole in my CS8-3 skimmer body and from the bottom of the skimmer body to the center of the hole it's 6" high.
the eheim pump connect like that with the regular elbow without any problem. if your size are the same you don't need to modify nothing.:)

I just ordered a Euroreef rs135 for my 65 gallon reef. Its going in a 20 long sump, so itll be a really tight fit. Im pretty excited but dont have too much experience with skimmers. Any suggestions before i set it up. I have heard its plug and play, once you dial it in its good, i hope that was right, im kind of new to this.... and thoughts, comments, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Im excited to have a great skimmer finally!!!

zach- keep posting after you get the skimmer.

i am wanting that for my 90g but still deciding between tunze.

anybody else on here use a rs 135

is it loud or quiet?

i know it will skime awesome.. but im lookin to see if its quiet or not and if its something i dont have to messs with a lot

so I recently acquired a used RS5-2 (my first EuroReef), will this be sufficient for a 75 gallon reef? (with what I would consider a medium bioload) I'll probably run it for a while no matter what to ultimately decide for myself, and I'm sure it will do wonders more than my standard remora would, but I am curious to hear people's thoughts.
