NHMarine - your problem is the NEW MICRO SOCK!!! MANY others have added a new sock to thier sumps and noted that thier skimmers went crazy!!!!! must be something on or in the socks. either wash or rinse the sock or live w/ it going crazy for a while

it is NOT the skimmer messing up ...it is the sock!!!

you don't have to cut ANYTHING! put it in 6-8" of water like the instructions say, put teh riser pipe as low as it will go....and your sock you added will have to get broke in before you skimmer calms down. sorry man but the socks cause problems when new

Oh ya.......now that you mention that I remember reading that a long time ago.

The skimmer is sitting in 8" of water. I think I am going to wait it out.

The skimmer is so quiet!!...And my sump is working perfect, no micro bubbles and virtually silent draining from the tank.

I agree with Lunchbucket, it's the sock. My skimmer will go crazy after three years if I put a new sock in the sump without rinsing it first.
 
I recently upgrade my skimmer to the ER ES5-3 and im very happy with the result but it has this one problem that when i feed my fish it'll stop skimming for 2-3 hrs , i feed my fish 3 times day meaning it wont skim for the whole day .Is this normal or is there a way to solve it? it's 2mos old .
 
Why in the world do you feed three times per day? What do you feed? I feed flake and my ER never shuts down.

I now have a cs8-3 and I need some advise-

What pump do you guys recommend for a replacement/upgrade?

I was thinking of a sedra 9000 but want to know if there are any other brands you recommend?

Sorry I'm a little late and off topic now, but it really pizzes me off that Jeff had to come and defend himself in THIS thread (out of all other's in particular). The complaint posts should've been deleted by the mods as soon as they were postd. This is the Euroreef Club thread, so if you don't have a Euroreef, and aren't looking to get one, why post here at all, for any reason other than starting crap.....

That being said, I do have an on topic contribution. Any of you other ER owners plumb in the CA reactor effluent into your ER skimmer? I was thinking of doing this, I'vfe seen alot of people do it with their AquaC's and such. Just wondering if it would affect skimmer performance.

Go for the gold and get the eheim 1260 replacement pump for the H&S skimmers.

Or you could get one of the OR 3700s. From a quick, simple observational test, I found that the OR 3700 performed just as well, if not better than the Sedra 9000 using less energy (At least that's what I think just going off of the wattage ratings for each pump)

Can the Ehiems be easily fitted to an ER RC body? Is it just a matter of PVC gluing on new unions?

I went with a sedra 9000 and I had to change my 5 gallon bucket this week! It filled up disturbingly quick with the new pump
 
Ok I'm In!!!:D I bought a cs6-2+ that was a month old. I figured the guy just got it broke in:smokin: . Hooked it up and it's skimming like a bad dog!!
