lol I have 3 hopefully simple questions that I need answered :)

1. My light has built in fans and they are really noisy....anyone know what the problem is? Its a rattle/humming (both) noise

2. How long should I leave my sump light on for the cheato to grow? 24/7?

3. How long do you leave your lights on....I have mine on a 9.5 hour burst....does that sound good? well the 250 goes from 9am to 6:30pm then the actinics kick on at 12pm to 9pm.....LMK cause I donno if thats right or not :)

TIA!

1. Sounds like the fans are loose in the mounting holes, you could try to use a small amout of silicone on them.
2. 24/7
3. My actintics are on before my M.H. 10am then the M.H. are on 11am.I only run the M.H. for about 5 to 6 hours. Its easier on the elect. bill. I read where after x number of hours of light there is no benefit to the corals, sorry I can't rember the number but I think it was around 6 hours.

I don't know how your fan is mounted but a few things can help. If they have small bolts, replace the bolts with nylon ones. Also, adding a small oring between the fan body and the hood at each bolt/screw will help isolate vibrations.
I run my actinics from 9AM to 10:30PM and the halides each run about 7.5 hours but hey come on and off stagered so the tank is lit with them from 1PM to 10pm.

You can leave the sump light on 24/7 or run it on a revese cycle. either way works.

I got rid of the bolts all together and siliconed them on, quieted them down alot!

24/7

actinics on at 11 halides on at 12:30 halides off at 9:30 actinics off at 11

Cheato will grow faster with a rest period. But if you use caulerpa it needs 24/7 to keep it from going to reproduction mode.

all righty thanks everyone I will give the cheato a rest on the light, sylicone the fans and change my rate to something like breutus's thanks everyone again :)

I've heard its best to run the refugium light on a reverse cycle from your main lights. It helps keep the PH stable.
