Exciting news

Very excited for the hatching. So the clown has been in the same spot in all of the pics - is that the male or female? Do they both stay in the tank after the babies hatch?

That is the male...he is very protective of the eggs. All you have to do is stand in front of the tank looking at the eggs and he will stare you down and charge at the glass.

As for the the babies once they hatch they will be moved to a 10g tank that has about 3-4 gallons of water from the parent tank. They will stay in that tank for about a month.

The only downside I see to all of this hard work and dedication is that in the end, all you'll have are clarkiis. LOL. :D

;)

You dont like clarkiis muppet?

I think one of my clowns charged my hand today!! I was in there wiping some algae i keep missing with the magnet and i swear he or she(?) charged me like "WHAT WHAT?! Yah thats what i thought....punk" lol.

The male blacker ice attacks either of us every time we put our hands in the tank. I always get a kick out of Sass jumping from the little guy!

Oh one other question! Is it normal for the male to clear out caves? He like rubs his body against the sand but like to flatten it or move it.But they do sleep in the caves. Does it mean theyre bonded when they sleep together?

Okay i know that was two questions...but i hope you'll give me a freebie.

Any fish can make their home more comfortable, in your case clearing out caves. Typically with clownfish, they will clean the area they want to spawn on/in.
(not saying yours are spawning, they are probably just getting comfy)

So while I was at work tonight, our newest pair (which are in our 125 DT) laid a clutch. Looks like it's about 100 or so eggs. This picture was taken after I moved the rock slightly away from the anemone.

Oh wow! Were you planning on breeding them? Will all of the other fish eat the eggs/babies?

We weren't exactly counting on either pair in our DT to breed, but were hopeful. Other fish won't eat the eggs because they are being carefully guarded by the parents and the nearby nem. However if we allow them to hatch in the tank they will all end up in sump and die. Unless we collect the fry (babies) as they hatch...which is the plan for now.

You have two pairs of clowns in your DT? I thought that would cause issues? The nem protects the eggs?? That is pretty cool!

Yes we have two pairs and you are absolutely right in a smaller tank aggression would surely be a problem. But it is a 6' long tank and the original pair never stray far from the left side of the tank, so we put the nem that the tomatoes were already hosting on the opposite side of the tank. There were a few scuffles in the beginning, but they have all adjusted. The nem indirectly protects the eggs. For the most part the fish stay away from the nem because it is the tomatoes territory...
