Experience With "Right Now! Bacteria"

I was reading about using the Right Now! Bacteria with the Tri-Based Pelletized Carbon and my question is can I use only this plus a mechanical filter and that's it? It will be a new fish only tank.

Wouldn't. "Miracle" - anything is to be avoided in this hobby unless, as you are properly querying, others have found it successful.

My own advice for a FOWLR is try to go live rock/sandbed/skimmer as much as possible---use a filter only if you have to. If you can't spring for mega-pounds of live rock, go for mostly base rock, a thin cap of live rock, and a few weeks of patience while the live rock seeds the base rock. Add a filter only if this arrangement can't keep it clean by itself.

Agreed w/both. Dont bother with any of those products that claim to boost your cycle and crap like that. Like drummer said, most (if not all) dont meet what they claim they do.

terrific01,
Don't do it ... I tried it and it made my nitrates double +. Then the maker told me I needed about 80 lbs of tri-base carbon to make it work ...! (I was using 40 lbs)
Plus my tang got a bacteria infection from it !

The only thing that happens fast in this hobby is disaster!
Take your time and do thing right. It's tough to do the first time, but in the long run, you will save countless $$.

That's kind of what I was thinking. My tank has 2 overflows out the bottom. What filter should I hook up to them. Will a MegaFlow sump filter model 4 w/bio-balls work? I read they can cause high nitrates.

Probably just apple juice, or some other sugar based stuff. Apple juice will make your bacteria grow like mad too... and increase nitrates eventually. They probably put something smelly in it too... so you think it's magic. Magic stuff smells bad.

The purpose of a cycle isn't to produce bacteria... it's to allow the bacteria to reach a balance with the rest of their environment. Increasing the number of bacteria artificially is just as bad as not having enough. Leave stuff like this for biology experiments, and let patience do it's job on your tank.
