Fab.com/Serene Seahorses going to kill a bunch of seahorses

"You do not need to mix salt into the RO water for this weekly 25% change. Why? Because your tank's water evaporates and the salt is left behind and the water salinity starts to increase":eek2::eek2::headwallblue:

Hi everyone,

Thank you all for sharing your feedback with us. We want to assure you that these seahorses are farm-raised. Serene Seahorse is a new company, but the tanks have been tested for the manufacturer, Innovative Marine, for some time.

If you'd like to share more feedback with us, please feel free to reach out to us at 877-463-4322 or support@fab.com

Thanks again for all of this information, we appreciate you taking the time to share this.

Best,
Fab Crackerjack Team

Hi Cracker,

I left a few comment on both of your FB page and they seem to be deleted? Is there a reason for that? Also are you aware of the rules on here about non-sponsors?

Kind Regards,

Tim

Thanks everyone for signing the petition, unfortunately I still think we need something more to convince them, if possible. You would think they would realize their mistakes and kindly respond to us instead of ignoring us.

Sorry guys, mods siad RC is not allowed to host petitions, even for a cause like this.:mad2:
Looks like we are going to have to use other measures.......:sad1:

I am cross posting as I have posted this on another site:

I have been emailing and I got to speak directly with Ericka via phone. We had some very long conversations about seahorses, their anatomy & physiology, their needs etc. We also discussed the passion that this niche of market has. They are dropping the H. erectus with the small tanks. With some work and additional expense on their part, they can make the H. zosterae work. She does appear to care about the animals and works with rescuing dogs on another endeavor. I think some of the advice and preconceived notions they had were obviously a bit misguided. I think with some support they can do ok. Hopefully they will find a quality source for the dwarfs.

Dan

Serene. I know the two are connected but not sure how. I didn't ask as our conversations where seahorse orientated and she seemed to be the lead.

Dan

Yes, she told me the same thing about changing the seahorses out, and has been asking a few people for advice as to what they would like to see in the aquariums, which I think is a really great start, and I'm happy to see that she's turning it around rather than dogmatically sticking to the original plan.

You guys saved me from making a BIG mistake!

You guys saved me from making a BIG mistake!

Thank you thank you thank you for this thread! I was seriously considering buying this set up from Fab.com until I read your posts and realized that I likely would have been setting myself (and the poor unfortunate seahorses) up for failure!

I still want to get sea horses, and will do so in the future but it seems I have a little more research to do first! The ads from Serene Seahorses/Fab.com made it seem easy and fool proof, but I guess if it was everyone would be doing it. Maybe it would be a better idea for me to give my money to the Monterey Bay aquarium and go visit their collection until I get some more experience/knowledge. Plus they have sea dragons, something which is waay outside the realm of my capabilities.

So I see a renewal (and upgrade) of my Monterey Bay aquarium membership in my immediate future, and many more trips to this website to build a knowledge base. Hmmm...not a bad thing to look forward to! Much better than a future of dead seahorses and heartbreak due to an ill-conceived tank!

Thanks again! I hope to get to know you guys better through this bulletin board. Sea horses are in my future but maybe not in my living room just yet.

Glad to know you are going to hold off on buying seahorses, and checked deeper into the situation before buying. Feel free to ask any questions you need.

By the way, sea dragons are pretty much out of the majority of our realms of knowledge. I'm almost positive that no home aquarist in the US keeps sea dragons. Maybe one day:rollface:

So pretending that the ones (sea dragons) at the Monterey Bay Aquarium are mine is both a practical and affordable solution! Yeah! Now I just need to come up with fun, pretend names...maybe Puff, and Smaug, and...

You know, the other benefit is that I don't have to worry about finding a tank sitter when I go away on the weekend! Win:win!

But I do want to get sea horses some day. Just. not. quite. yet.

Yeah they're not impossible to keep by any means, it's just the explanation on FAB went the other way saying it was too easy. Serene is now working to provide accurate information so customers can make an educated decision on keeping them.
