Fail's SPS 14 Gallon Biocube

I've been lurking for a long time and just recently figured out how to take mediocre pictures with my cell. So now it's time for a thread of my own.

I've been at this SPS thing for almost 2 years now, and while I'm not an expert by any means, I think I may have gotten the hang of things. That's not to say I haven't had my difficulties. I dealt with AEFW and Redbugs at the same time. I dealt with nitrate issues. I dealt with chemistry issues. I dealt with cyano. I dealt with suicidal fish and killer pistol shrimp.

It's been a great learning experience and the end results have been rewarding so far.

Tank:
Oceanic Biocube 14

Equipment:
MP10
Innovative Marine Media Reactor
Intank Media Basket
Upgraded return pump

Lighting:
Rapidled retrofit 12 LED kit
Rapidled 4 LED "UV" kit

Fish:
Six line wrasse
Randall's goby

Inverts:
Tiger Pistol shrimp
Red and Blue leg hermits
Trochus snails

Here's a few more. I apologize for the oversaturated pictures. I should have a decent camera come tax season.

Looks good!! I have 2 sps tanks, one of them is 12 gallon bio cube(just for a challenge) I just started. I have a mp40 on my 50 gallon, but I was wondering how the mp10 does in your tank and what percent output you have it set on?

I have it at about 60%-70%. It's set for night mode whenever the power doesn't reset it.

Anything higher blows sand around and covers some of the lower corals. I have a turkey baster on hand to uncover any of my pistol shrimp's handy work.

The colors look amazing! Did adding the UV make a noticeable difference for you? Is the media reactor in chamber one, with the media basket in chamber two? I hope to have my BC14 looking that good one of these days!

Thank you!

The "UV" LEDs helped with florescence. As for growth, its unknown. I had a lot of thing going on in the tank that all straightened out a little after adding the LEDs, so I can't really say. Could be additional spectrum, or it could be that I got rid of the pests and got my water parameters on track. Maybe a little of all three?

The reactor is in the first chamber and the media basket is in the second.

I am currently running BRS GFO and Lignite carbon.

I change the carbon every 2 weeks and the gfo every month or if I start getting algae on the glass sooner that 3-4 days.

So I had a bit of a scare the other day...

While feeding some mysis and oyster egg mix, my six line wrasse desired to play a game of hide and seek... IN MY VORTECH. I had thought he went to his normal hangout behind the birdsnest/Monti cap island.

I was wrong... I turned the Vortech back on and heard "THUNK" and immediately saw the little dude freaking out and hiding. When he did finally come back out, I saw the damage I had done. He was dented on his right side as well as having a nasty abrasion.

Fast forward to today and he is all good. I had the scare of my life with him.

The moral of the story, CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT BEFORE TURNING IT BACK ON!!!

I would provide pics but he won't stand still long enough for me to do so.

Here's a shot of my equipment shelf next to the tank. Soon it will be a 20L frag tank. I need to get the frag rack out of the Cube.
