Soooo, you're saying there's a chance! Also C. jordani; a less mature female than the other.
I don't remember any Anthias, 8 line was a couple tanks to right ... This shipment just came in last Wednesday or Thursday ... I guess that you didn't see the males?Albano was that in with an 8 line flasher and some red anthias? If so I was gonna pick that guy up but passed on it. I wasn't sure what it was and the GF wanted to leave. I did pick up an 8 line for 55 from there.
Both females of roseafascia and jordani look very similar, but just knowing the store where they were purchased and that they have not had a Hawaiian shipment lately, but rather a Philippines shipment, the identity MUST be C. rosefascia...
not C. roseafascia.
as Hunter has mentioned, C. jordani. I have seen plenty of, as well as kept a small trio of roseafascias in the past and this is not it. both are female jordanis. It could be from a wholesaler and not direct from hawaii hence the mix up.
Did YOU get the males?????
To add to the story, the owner told me that they had 2 pairs of unidentified wrasses in... when I got there he was out, and I couldn't find the pairs! I asked one of the workers and he pointed out the 2 juvis... while looking them over, the owner got back and I asked him about the 'pairs'... he looked in the tank and I saw "smoke coming out of his ears". He called the employees over...seems one of them ... sold the 'pair' of males to one customer!
Thank you.not C. roseafascia.

No; it's 100% jordani.Any chance of some kind of hybrid?
I have no knowledge as to where the shipment came from, nor an explanation if this statement is entirely true. All I have are photos of the fish, and those photos both show jordani without a shadow of a doubt. The store that they are from only tranships their fish. This order did NOT come from Hawaii, but rather the Philippines. As you know there are no jordani in the Philippines.
And I can see why you think this, but there are easy differences to distinguish. Both females of roseafascia and jordani look very similar,

Here are a few examples of female jordani. I'd like you to note the markings on the face (the red lines above and below the eye) and the markings on and just before the tail (mainly the color fade and the yellow band present in the photo Albano posted in post 73).
Here, in the 1st pic of Roseafascia by Tanaka, it too has yellow band at the base of the tail, same as in pic 79 posted by Albano. And the markings under and over the eye in both pics.
Pay attention to the facial markings; very different. Note when the dorsal fin has color, it's always yellow and not at all red.
Not always just yellow, as seen in the 2nd pic, also by Tanaka, there is red in the dorsal. It is more mature, but the coloring exists in the species.
Also, in the pic Albano posted in post 79, the angle of the caudal fin from about the 5th fin ray up. It is faint, but it is already getting longer and beginning to creat the lance shape, not the rounding that exists in jordani.
And, not to create more work for Albano, but if we were to see whether there were markings on the ventral fins, we would be able to see if it were roseafascia. We could also wait and see their maturation if Albano were inclined to post updates as well.
Ok... I took Hunter's pics to my lawyer, but he doesn't think that I can sue the LFS !!
Soooo, moving forward, this weeks wrasse ID test is one that is supposed to be from Tahiti or Cook Islands... It was labeled an 'orangeback' but it isn't Cirrhilabrus aurantidorsalis
it's body is orange on the top, blue/red/purple from 'eye line' down, base of dorsal is blue with orange top, has very long pecs like pylie or temminckii wrasse
(In this pic, tail is hidden, but it is blue/purple), anal fin and pecs are blue
Gentlemen...what say you?
Cirrhilabrus beauperryi, male...
You can dispute me all you'd like, but my opinion will not change.Easy enough to verify. The fish came from Maximum Reef in Yonkers NY. Call and ask if they get their fish from wholesalers or transshipping. It's only a 4 or 5 man operation, but if you have questions regarding the employees knowing for sure where the fish came from ask Ralph, the owner. Also ask how recently they have received Hawaiian vs. Philippine shipments.

Yes indeed.Cirrhilabrus beauperryi, male.
A rather recent addition to the Cirrhilabrus genus, described in 2008 officially. was previously regarded as a variation of C. punctatus. it's the 50th member to be described.
the back turns bright ochre when the fish is displaying.
For that price, yes. It's not generally "expensive", but usually quite a bit more than that. And you don't see them for sale all that often; a few times a year.WINNER-WINNER!!!!
I looked thru pages of google wrasse images to no avail... But that's it! Coloring is very different from other wrasses I've seen/have/had... Hopefully the color stays, he'll have a lot of friends to play with...
There were 2 available, so my friend and I each took one... Figured for $40 it was 'worth a shot'!
Thanks Lemon for help.
