The red sea cleaner wrasse is a very willing cleaner but it's also a nuissance as cleaners go. They just don't know when to back off and so this tends to annoy the fairy wrasses. By the way, these red sea cleaners can get pretty big and they are best suited to clean larger fish. Since your fairy wrasses may be bothered by the red sea cleaner they may not allow the regular cleaner to do his job.
I agree about only having one cleaner. If you can, sell, trade or place the red sea cleaner in another tank and just keep the regular cleaner. Then give the fairies some time to get used to the regular cleaner. He'll know when to clean and when to back off. When he does clean the fairy wrasses his little bites won't be as aggressive as the larger bites of the red sea cleaner.

hm, well the "african" cleaner wrasse (looks like a regular cleaner), beats on the red sea one regularly so....

Any advice on what to do about POPEYE on my Scotts Fairy? Its only one eye so i'm assuming he probably bumped into something. Should i just wait and hope it goes back to normal?

Thanks,
Steven

heuerfan,

go to QT with him and use Maracyn 2. Check a few pages back on this thread. I wrote about how to treat this not to long ago with someone else.

Well my new Male C. Solorensis died a few days ago. I let him out of the breeder cup, and later when i got home from class i saw him in the rocks. He looked stressed and i figured my female was still picking on him. So i was messing around in the tank and tried to nudge him out, and noticed he was dead. He got stuck in a hole in my rocks. I'm a bit depressed to say the least. I've been dieing to get one for a while now, and within a week he dies to something i should not have been so dumb to overlook.
On a lighter note, my female is doing exceptionally well. She is eating like mad and is looking extreamly healthy. I'm about ready for coral now, just need to decide if im going to start off using randys 2 part or kalk.
So far for stocking im thinking female and male pair Solors, potters angel, onyx clowns, and either a jawfish or shrimp goby/pistol shrimp. Thoughts?
I'll try to get some updated pictures of my female when i get a chance, and sorry for the long post. I needed to vent and got a bit carried away.

coreno16,

Where did you get the male solarensis from?

I got mine from phishy business and it is doing very well. I highly recommend them. Great price too.

That seems like an awful lot of fish (your stocking list) for a 46 gallon. I personally would do the solars and a couple of smaller fish. I would also skip the angel.

I got him from the LFS. I'm a bit concerned about the color if i order him online. I prefer the lighter coloration with more of a teal side than green. I will give the site a look though. Thanks

Mine is the exact color that you are talking about. If you are dead set on the potters he has one of those as well. All of his fish are eating and that is the main part of the difficulty in keeping potters is getting them to eat.

If you decide to wait then your female will probably become a male if that isn't already happening. For $36 you can't go wrong IMO as everybody else wants $50 and up. These guys have a great reputation as well.

Bronco/Hiroyuki?

Bronco/Hiroyuki?

What do i have here?C.Adornatus maybe? Got this guy a couple of days ago, was very stressed and did not look to good when I got him. I took a chance with him, never seen one like this in person before, hope he makes it. Sorry about bad pics, holding tank not to clean.

What an awesome thread! The fairy wrasses are a dangerous addiction for sure. What do you guys think about keeping one C. rubrisquamis and C. scottorum in a 75g tank? The rubrisquamis is in there now and I really want to get another fairy wrasse (preferebly the Scott's) as long as they have a decent chance of getting along with each other.

Other fish in the tank are:
G. watanabei (female... recently lost my male :( )
C. aurantius
A. rainfordi

I have plans to (attempt) replacing the male watanabei, and probably a juvenile rabbitfish or magnificent foxface.

2 of my male lineatus that i got in came down with pop-eye. Is this common Bronco??? 2 out of 10 is pretty big odds.

Im treating with furazone green right now. The first male that got it had both eyes bulging out, and now only 1, so i think it is working. But maybe i'll give maracyn 2 a try.

get soem cleaner shrimps in there if you don't already have some, i have foudn them to be really helpful when it comes to fish coming down with poeye.

How can cleaner shrimp possibly cure pop-eye? Unless you believe that it's caused by an ectoparasite, which is not the general belief.

Some eye problems can be the result of skin flukes when they attach to the eye. There was a nasty skin fluke going around a while back.
