Fairy wrasse Photo Library

Wow! I'm loving this thread. I cared for a wrasse years ago- can't remember which species- he had such a great personality.

This is exactly why I have a "reef-safe" wrasse on my stocking "wish" list!

Can you offer me some compatability advice? So far, I am interested in the following wrasses:
* Velvet Fairy (Luteovittatus) wrasse
* Pinstripe (Melanurus)
* Sixline (I'm concered about bristle worms that I've seen and can't catch)
* Laboutie

I already have:
1 Yellow watchman goby
1 Yellow pistol shrimp (1.5 inches, paired with goby)
1 Scotter blenny
Pair of ocellaris clownfish
1 RBTA
CUC with hermits, snails, emerald crabs
Green star polyps, zoos, toadstool, acan, trumpet corals

After I've added the wrasse(s), then I want to finalize my tank with a larger species (hopefully peaceful). I've considered each of the following, with reservations. Likely to pick two of the three.
- 1 schooling bannerfish (not the longfin!)
- 1 Hippo tang
- 1 Blue chin trigger

Given where am I and why I'd like to go, which wrasse(s) would you recommend? Any suggestions on the larger species list given the desire for a wrasse?

Tank: 125 gallons + 30 gallon sump, Tunze 9010 skimmer, 2 Tunze Powerstreams, Compact Flourescents

also the luteovittatus will lose alot of color with out females and they are very aggressive right there with scotts as being one of the most aggressive and having colors close to the laboutei i am sure that there would be fireworks with those together

Hi everyone, I was trying to ID my new fariy wrasse on Google, and it led me back to this thread in the forums! This was sold to me as a "cyanopleura wrasse" which would commonly be called the Bluesided fairy wrasse...problem is, this is mostly red and orange. My own hunting leads me to think this is either a orange back fairy wrasse or a red velvet fairy wrasse. anyways, heres a picture of him being acclimated. He is still shy to people....he will be out in the open with all the fish but when I approach the tank he hides under a rock and just watches me lol.

Can anyone help me get a solid ID on this fish?
