Just dave,

I take it from your comments and pictures that you work in a reef store?

Are you selling those girdled fairy wrasses?

If so can you PM with a price?

I'm in Georgia so I'm not that far from you.

Also, any other fairies in stock?

I have a store.

Yes.

I did.

Yes,I sent a list of what I have at this time.

Here is a C. bathyphilus ( Coral Sea fairy/ Rosey Fin fairy ) in one of our tanks.

Bronco,
Awsome collection.
I had a pretty nice collection myself, but lost a few cause of jumping....I never saw such nervous fish such as these fairy wrasses.

Dave,
Nice C. bathyphilus, they are starting to be more and more available, mainly from Vanuatu.

I picked up my C. Solarnaris (spelling) today!! Hes being acclimated right now, he got stuck in the bag when I was trying to put him into the bucket, but I got him out fast, I hope he'll be okay. Hes just hanging out on the side of the bucket not moving, I know this is normal for wrasses, and if I move the bucket a little he moves. I'll post some pictures once hes fully acclimated to the tank and swimming!

Update: He is in the tank and swimming all over, not in the open, but constantly throuhg the rocks. This is my first non agressive tank and the first time I've seen a new fish not be bullied at introduction! Its awesome!! Its funny, the wrasse will come out, but not too far from the rocks, and the clownfish will slowly swim over to say "Hi!" in a non-aggresive manner and the wrasse goes, "Ahh!" and goes back in his little cave lol. Hes swiming everywhere except in the very front. He is so beautiful and I can't wait to post some pictures, I already want another fairy wrasse! They're addictive, but I shall resist! haha

heya!

those w/ rosy fins: do you find that they are shy? it's been a week and mine just barely come out. not like my other wrasses.

and as pre-payment for the information, here's a couple of shots!

I find it difficult to acquire pairs of many of these guys.

I know that many of the wrasses are capable of sex changing when the dominant male moves on...

How easy is that? in otherwords have any of you bought a pair that looked similiar and had one develop as the male, while the other remained female/juvenile?
It happens almost automatically with clowns, I was simply curious if wrasses were that easy too?

whodah,

the first 3 to 5 days (varies by fish) are very nerve-racking days for a fairy wrasse. They are disoriented, acclimating in many ways, and just generally unsure of their new surroundings. So yes, some wrasses will hide out and be a bit reclusive. However once they have learned how the territory is laid out and what they can call their own......also after a few great meals in your tank, their disposicion changes all together. For the most part fairy wrasses are not shy fish, they are not hiders. If a fairy is hiding then 3 things are occuring:

1/ The fish is being attacked by a very aggressive fish
2/ The fish is sick
3/ The temperature in your tank has risen to above 84 degrees and the fish is having oxygen consumption problems

Could there be other variables.....of course. But these I found to be the primary causes for a wrasse to hide.

whodah,

By the way, I failed to recognize your beautiful fish.

The Lineatus is a great fish and by the second pic I believe that is a rhomboid?

One of the harder and pricier fish to find.

Beautiful - congrats

By the way I'd like to say that picture was taken by Hiroyuki Tanaka of one of his own fish. Just want to make sure credit is given to the right person.

I use a quarantine tank to acclimate all my new fish. They are usually right out in the open on the second day and eating well. This gives them time to get used to my house and feeding routines, and give them a chance to build up strength and get oriented before going to the big tank.I have 2 Cirrhilabrus rubrisquamis and a female C.bathyphillus in QT right now. They are all getting along and eating well.I have had excellent results using this method.I never have any wrasses play dead for 3 days or hide using this method(unless they were already sick).

Hereââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢s my dilemma.

Earlier this month I bought 2 sub-adult Lineatus Fairy Wrasse from liveaquaria.com. One did, and continues to do great, feeding aggressively, not at all shy. The other never looked good and unfortunately died after a couple days.

I originally thought Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢d replace the Lineatus wrasse, which liveaquaria has agreed to do.

But, since the Rosy Fin Fairy Wrasse is now available, Iââ"šÂ¬Ã¢"žÂ¢m debating if I should replace the Lineatus or go for a Rosy Fin male, or, maybe a male ââ"šÂ¬Ã¢â‚¬Å“ female combo.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Ted

heya!

i have noticed the rosy fins coming out more and more. but not like the other wrasses. to be honest, i thought i got a male/female pair. but i'm not sure now... i think now that i have an adult and a juvenile, but no clue on the sexes!

the two hang out, but not all the time. they don't fight. the reason i question the sexes is that i saw your shot (bronco7777's) of the two rosy fins and your comment:

These are a young juvenile pair. At this age not much distinguishes one from the other.

back on page 2.

i'll try and get a shot or two in the next few days. any resources on what to look for on determining sexes? in particular adults and juveniles?

oh - they do eat. they were eating at the LFS and have eaten anything i've put in my tank: frozen cubes, mysis, flakes, pellets...

and yup, you got the pics right! a lineatus and rhomboid. and ty!
:)

every once in a while the rhomboid gets something up his butt when he looks at the indian ocean firefish just right.

kinda makes sence... the IO FF has a little more yellow-green to him then a 'normal' purple firefish i've been told.

at any rate, every once in a while the IOFF seems to get the rhomboid wriled up, and that's when i get to see him bursting gold! i mean, almost irridescent! i've raced for the camera 3 times now trying to catch it, but he's always calmed down by the time i return, heh! his spells last about 20 seconds or so.

once - he flared up the lineatus too. mind u - there's no aggression going on during this, he's just going berzerk in the tank.

gorgeous! i know it's not desired for them to be so stressed that they color up like that. and nor do i encourage my puffer to puff... but when they do - it's simply amazing!

here's a couple more shots of the IOFF and rhomboid. u can c y the rhomboid doesn't like him at times:

That's a pretty FF.
I ordered a juvenile/sub-adult Lineatus from LA and got a full blown male.I got a male Rosey fin at the same time. They both went in the big tank with the other wrasses last week.So far everyone gets along fine.My male has dark blue on the front and rear of his dorsal, and a dark blue outline on the tail fin.The female only has one short dark blue line at the front of her dorsal, and she is a bit more yellow. The female and the 2 C. rubrisquamis will go into the 300G on Monday.

Update on my Solar Wrasse: it is still shy, but the second i put some mysis shrimp, you could be banging against the glass and he doesn't care, he loves it!! and since i fed him, he is coming out more, maybe I fed him some "comfort" food :P haha
