Here are some better pictures of the Girdled fairy. I'll get some better ones when all the lights are on.

Both of the wrasses in this picture are C. balteatus.

Vili_Shark,

No I have never owned a Blood stain and I haven't seen one in person either.

That's my holy grail fish. The search continues. I know there's only one place to get them and it's from Mauritius and it's very expensive. I believe there's only one collecting station out there and the fish lives in very deep water....like a rhomboid. The picture I posted here is from Tanaka. He owns one. But even in Japan they are almost never available.

I hear there is a new collection station under construction out there and a new company is trying to get these. I'm trying to work through some contacts to eventually grab one of these guys.

We'll see.

ok, i was able to shoot about 50 shots last night of my rosy fins, 2 came out. both of the adult, heh!

from the description above, sounds like this is a male?

i'll try to get the juvenile again...

Rothie: cool, and thanks! :)

cheeks69: ty! :D

i gotta say - my rosy fin is out now just about all the time. took about 10 days or so. i don't remember the others doing that, but my memory isn't that good anyways, heh! i did get the lineatus used too - so that probably helped.

havn't gotten a shot of the little one yet, i'll keep trying!

well - i've gotten tons of blurry shots... ha ha!

I'm considering adding one or more of these magnificent fish to a 30 gallon cube. By the way, there are two fish currently in the tank - a canary blenny and a black ocellaris clown.

Based on the posts here and research I've done elsewhere it seems that if you can afford these babies they're pretty easy to take care of (primary prerequisite seems to be a tight fitting lid).

My biggest concern is the propensity for the fish that I am most interested in (solarensis) to lose it's vibrant color. Ergo my question:

what's the best way to avoid color loss?
- add more than one wrasse at the same time? If so, how many and should they be the same or different species?
- use a specific food or supplement (selcon)?

TIA
Calvin

Calvin,

Why don't you try a yellowfin fairy wrasse intead of a solar. The solar would require several females and your tank is too small. However if you get a male yellowfin he will never lose his colors even if he has no females around.

I have one also... ;) ...but I believe it's because solorensis fairy wrasses are commonly available and doesn't get the same response as the "less common" fairy wrasses. My 2Ã"šÃ‚¢.

But I will say, you have a nice solorensis wrasse. :D

EDIT: How large is your solar wrasse?

whodah - What's your current stock list of fairy wrasses? Is it just the two (2) rosy fins, one (1) lineatus and one (1) rhomboid? How large are they?

BTW, beautiful pics. It really does take like 50 shots to get 2-3 decent frames...I know.
