Well before I even consider buying one i will thourghly (sp?) research them. I just needed the scientific name because "Black Hat Wrasse" brought up basically no results. Thanks for the help.

There is very little info on them by using google. I was actually disappointed that WetWebMedia only had the tiny box of info and no useful FAQs or anything. You're best bet is using the search here on RC. That's where I got all my info before purchasing mine and he's been very healthy for 2 months now and counting.

CrazyLionfish,

That picture you found on Marineaquatics.net is a picture of my Black Hat Pencil wrasse. I provided that shot to the owner of that web site. I bought the fish from them.

I've had that wrasse sometime now and it's not too difficult to keep.

It needs sand to bury itself in at night to sleep. It is very jumpy. You tank MUST BE COVERED. They do well on Mysis and Cyclopeeze.

It is a pencil wrasse and LukFox had the correct scientific name.

I got my Hawaiian flame wrasse this morning!!!

D.O.A. :(

They are sending me another. True to form I was told that this is the first one that they have had die in transit.

I have the worst luck.

CeeGee - Sorry to hear. At least the vendor is sending another one. Post pics as soon as your new intro is acclimated... :)

The place that I am dealing with seems to be first class. Providing that this one arrives in good shape I would not hesitate to order from them again.

The guy didn't bat an eye and reassured me that they would send another one out and even asked when I would like to receive the specimen.

They have gone out of their way to make purchasing from them a good experience. Very rare these days.

Thank you all for the info. Bronco do you know how large they get?

Not Bronco (he's actually the reason why I made up my mind 7 months ago to get one! lol), but they get just a little under 4".

salty critter.

I have been dealing with Dan. He seems to be a great guy.

I also bought a ASM protein skimmer from him. Great price and very helpful then as well.

ok fairy lovers..

ok fairy lovers..

you ignored my previous post...so here is another... i am in... i am all in..

Here are the wrasses I am considering:

3 Solarensis
1 Scott's
1 Mystery

I would love to have all 3... I have a 120g tank.. so far only chromis.. plan on having 1 butterfly fish (will add last) and 4 dispar anthias.

So here is how i am thinking of introducing the fish:

First) 1 male Solarensis with 1 male Scott's (i hope they have 2 female solarensis as well, if so, would add at this time)

Second) Dispar anthias 1 male, 3 females
Third) Mystery Wrasse with 2 female solarensis(if they werent available to add with the male)
Last) Copperband butterfly.

What do you think? Good plan of stocking? The wrasses will be of varying sizes, especially the males...hope i can get like a 2 inch male solarensis and 3 or 4 inch scotts...

appreciate the input.

The Scotts (blue) and Solerinsis will probably end up fighting if they are of similar size. I had to remove my Fine Spot for that very reason, and the Fine Spot was almost black it was so dark while my Solerinsis is light sky blue.

GeeGee: I got my male flame wrasse last week from Dan. He is doing awesome in quarentine and getting along great with my giant super Aust. Scott's.

Well in a few hours I will know if the new one made it or not. I really like Dan he seems to be a super guy. I am still in awe on how he just stepped up to the plate and took care of the situation.

He told me someone ordered one last week and it did fine. He was very reassuring. How does yours look? He told me that they all looked similar to the one on this one

I hope mine lives and looks like that! I can't get over that fish I look at it several times a day.

BTW thanks for rubbing it in ;)

LargeAngels,

how long was it before your flame started to feed?

I got the new guy in today and he made it into the piece of PVC that I put in the quarantine for him and has not come out. I tried feeding some mysis mixed with prime reef and selcon and he was a no show at feeding.

GeeGee,

A day. I started with live brine, but I think he would have gone for mysis right away. I already had the Scott's in there so he was not shy. Although first couple of days he only came out during feeding.

maybe he will eat today.

are you running your lights in your quarantine? I left mine off yesterday to hopefully let the fish settle in in a little. I am thinking of cutting them on today if nothing else about 10 minutes before I try to feed again.

I would really like to get this guy eating before I leave on tuesday. Heading out to vegas to get married.
