Very pretty. I had one that ate out of my hand 5 minutes after going into the tank.
Then 2 months later took a flying leap. I almost saved it, but after an hour of trying it wasn't to be.

I just had to post a picture of the smallest flame wrasse I have seen. Got this little girl last week. A little over an inch and is doing great. The male is so huge compared to her, but she is the one out much more in the open.

Does anybody know if you can mix Scott's fairy wrasse of different sizes and orgins together? I have one now and I want to add another. I just don't want to start a war by adding another one.

would a yellow corius wrasse be compatible with fairy wrasses? My yellow corius gets along great with my true percula clown & BTA, coral banded shrimp, hermits, cerith & turbo snails, diamond watchman goby & my royal gramma basslet.

I fish I can find a girl flame to go with my big boy. I bought him last week from atlantis aquarium and he is trying to become the king of the tank but my Rhomboid holds that title. Have you noticed its hard to get a pic of these guys sometimes?

I collected the C. earlei at 330ft. in Micronesia with hand-nets. I also collected the C. johnsoni as well as the C. balteatus that I've seen posted in the forum.

Aloha,
Brian

How much are the earlei worth on the market? I am curious because my LFS gets in all the rare stuff but he can never get an earlei or a lanceatus. Are the balteatus and Johnson found at the 300ft deep? That has to be dangerous diving that deep.

I am starting to like a lot fairy wrasses, in fact I want buy 2 instead of a blue tang I wanted to buy, since they are smaller.

I don't know how difficult it would be to keep them. I have an acrylic tank, as you know, they don't have closed lid, but it has a central acrylic border, also on top there is a current Usa lamp that does cover the complete opening, but is not sitting on the same level, there are about 3 inches between the lamp and the top openings. I don't know if jumping would be a problem. My fish do get scared sometimes, the tank is on the kitchen.

Also I have heard they are planktivores but that can accept other kinds of food, I feed my fish pellets, and shrimp twice a week. Haven't used zooplankton yet, planning to in the future since at the moment have only corals that do not require it. And also I don't wanna do a mess with water, feeding plankton all the time.

Appart from that, the tank is incredibly stable, it doesn't even have a heater, and the temp is always the same, an anemone died once, and nothing happened to the parameters, its only a 65 gal.

I do have a banded coral shrimp though, don't know if the wrasses could kill it.

The royal gramam I own, is very territorial

Plancton the royal gramma - if very territorial may cause a problem, wrasses are very peaceful fish for the most part and can get bullied easily. Your coral banded shrimp should be fine. However, if your tank is in an area where the fish you have now get scared.. it would definitily scare the wrasse. And if you have wrasse in a "scary" area like this, the need for a closed top raises incredibly. I would not get one in your tank if its in an area as you described and if you don't have a completely covered top. I don't think any captive kept wrasses that I know are fed small plankton like your descrbing. Most feed their wrasses once or twice a day with marine plankton (bigger then zooplankton) and mysis shrimp.

You feeding only twice a week would not be sufficient for a fairy wrasse. They require AT LEAST once a day preferably twice or three times even.
