warning: the video is of someone dying through a diving accident. if you are uncomfortable with the subject please do not watch. there is no violence or gore involved.

this is the area of his dive:

I'm not sure if this has been posted before, but I wanted to discuss the possible reason for his death.
There are various theories, such as people saying his BCD malfunctioned and failed to fill air in its pockets causing him to sink, that he suffered Nitrogen Necrosis early on which made him not realize he was decending fast, or an unknown (possible shark) creature dragged him down or attacked him (at 5:10 - 5:15 upper left corner of the screen)

it is almost certain that he narced, but its not certain when.

I have not watched the video that you linked to, nor will I ever.

A few years ago I was diving a sink hole in Florida. There were four of us: myself and my dive buddy, as well at two others that he knew. I was really concerned about the abilities of one the guys and my concerns proved true. At a depth of around 205 feet the inept diver plowed his way into his dive buddy knocking him down and causing a complete silt-out. All I could see was the silhouette against the pitch-black of the two guys struggling in the muddy water. I thought for sure that I was watching a diver in the process of dying. My heart began to race and breathing rate shot up. I started hearing a whoosh in my ears which meant the there was a sudden CO2 build-up in my bloodstream. I knew that if I didn't get control of myself I too would be in trouble very shortly. I closed my eyes and convinced myself that I had to block this out of my mind deal with it at the surface. And after about 30 seconds I got control of my breathing and heart rate. Much to my surprise everyone turned around to return to the surface and left me behind in huge clouds of silt that they created with their finning (they didn't know how to frog kick).

It turns out that the idiot diver was OK, but he could have killed the rest of us. At 205 feet, things can go wrong very fast. I learned a great lesson by allowing an unqualified diver to participate in a dangerous technical dive.

Bottom line: You have no damn business posting the video of a dying diver! Even though no one died, I went through a horrible experience that day that I hope never to relive. You obviously have no idea what that feels like. What do you hope to accomplish by posting a link to such a video?

MODERATOR: please delete the previous posting.

Though I have not gone over 95 feet, I am a certified diver myself, and have not had any scuba accidents so far as every dive, we planned the dive and dived the plan. I have 3 near death experiences almost by drowning, twice in the ocean and once in a lake. I posted because I felt that it is a very real way to be aware of the dangers of the sport and for divers to be cautious in all their dives. Something to learn.

Tech Diver, who are you to tell me what I can post and not post? If you are uncomfortable with the subject matter then why did YOU post? I post in hopes that NOONE will have accidents like this in their dives. You make it sound like I posted a snuff film.

Reefugee thank you for the link.

I've seen that video before. IMO, it sounds like water is being drawn into his reg. I've had that happen to me, too. Not a fun time.

Tech i have to dissagree with you.
first with your expiriense as a tech diver first rule if your not comportable with anything weather, dive buddies, equipment or the terrain you should abbort nothing good comes out of a dive if you have concern about something.

second did this guy ignore the cardinal rule "dive buddy" like the comment that was made he desended all by him self with out his buddy is it becouse his a dive master

diver dies becouse of thier stupidity and arrogans example a veterant dive instructor died he venture all by himself inside a wreck got trap and died.

divers correct me if i'm wrong and i do know how to take criticism (sp)

it is not confirmed if the person in the accident was a dive master, or wanted to be a dive master.
the most bewildering part of the video is why he chose to go down to 91 meters, and if it was an accident or not. some people think he went alone and down on purpose, some think it was a malfunctioning bcd and narc hit him early, others think some unknown creature dragged him down.
if you hear him breathing, he sounds totally calm all the way down to 91 meters.

question 2 how many stop and how long per stop (deco) does he have to do starting at 91 meters let say he got a 95 cu/ft tank nitrox or tri-mix on that one tank and it can not be regular breathing air at that depth it got to be nitrox or tri-mix.
A 95 normally last me 1hr and 15 minutes at 50 to 60 feet.

are these test questions? lol
i'm pretty sure it was a recreational dive, i doubt there was any mix in the tank. if it was a regular tank, i doubt he had more than 5 mins to breathe at 91 meters...

I believe he was over weighted and in the blue hole you can get deep fast without realizing it. And when he started to sink faster it was too late, maybe due to inexperience. I don't think from what I saw there was any kind of animal involved. Once he got down that far , assuming on air, he would have more than likely narced, and at 91 meters approx, 280Ft. oxygen toxicisity would have also been an issue.

ok i know i'm new diver, but whey didn't he ditch the belt or integrated weights, whatever he had, as the tank emptied he should have been able to come up with no weights, would have had other issues but should have been able to make the surface.

He was probably caught way off gaurd. I have worked in the diving business and you would be surprised at how often experienced divers don't lose the weights to save their life. I was doing some more thinking on it and looks like he is really in pain on the bottom, which leads to me to think that it could be possible that he started to have a heart attack on his descent. That would definitely explain why he didn't try to go back up. The pain would have been overwhelming.

Sounded like he was breathing normally the whole time on the way down. Camera wasn't jerking around violently as you would expect if he thought he were in trouble.

Well I have often heard of people who are really sick or are just tired of everything taking the "deep dive". Wouldn't rule it out I guess. Narced out of your mind, don't know whats going on, can't be a bad way to go.

Has anyone else watched the video where a local dive operator recovered the body of the guy who we are all talking about?

His tank is pointing up at the surface and the strap holding it down was cut. The tank is dangling from his first stage and BCD inflator.

Add to that, the appearance of something towards the end of his video that looked like a monster with big white teeth and a white eye. It is just there for a moment, but does not look like an optical illusion.

I think he did decend way too fast and was probably narced out of his gourd, but he did not seem panicked or concerned as he repeatedly looked at his depth and showed it to the camera.

My guess is he got to the bottom of the hole and something decided to investigate.

Whatever the creature was, it swam towards him, circled around behind him and bit down on his tank.

The thrashing around he did at the end of the video is likely because something was jerking back and forth on his back.

Narced out of his gourd, being attacked by a wild animal.

Horrible, but it can happen.

We forget that in the deep places of the ocean, we are not the top of the food chain.

"Here, there be monsters".
