Fautin and allen's book: notice anything strange?

The anemonefish pictured is a perviously unknown variety. It comes from shallow water off the coast of an unexplored island in the Pacific. This island does not even know the footsteps of man! My diver is the only one with the collection license and the clownfish will be named after him once he has done a little more research. He has been experimenting with it for 9 months and we know now he is very hardy. Let me know and I will be willing to part with this anemonefish for $299 plus shipping. Acclimation is very important in fact you need to acclimate for hours. No guarantee but I am sure you will be satisfied.

Yes, and I have dealt with BonsaiNut before. He is really a great guy and has always been very open and upfront with me.

put me down for a breeding pair thanks, i will pm you for avaliability.:eek2:

So sorry they do not breed like that. They reproduce by longitudinal fission or they spit out babies all over the place! I have a marine biologist working with them and he frags them all the time but when you do this I recommend a colder aquarium all the time! But first you must ask.

OMG haha Bonsai is that a sunny?

That is a Lepomis gibbosus (aka Pumpkinseed sunfish). It is probably my favorite native north american fish - some individuals I have seen in the wild have been amazingly colored - equal to many discus fish I have seen in the LFS.

I heard a rumor that it is illegal to keep these in an aquarium because they are game fish (?) Anyone confirm? I would think that these things would sell like wildfire to an international audience, assuming export were allowed. A little selective breeding and you would have a stunning fish to rival any African cichlid.

You may have seen them for sale, but they are illegal to sell or to transport. In some places it is legal to keep them, in other places it is not.
I think in SoCal they are illegal to transport or sell, but you can keep them. So, if they are alive in your car, you get fined. Once you have them at home you are OK. :)

They are quite stunning in breeding color and were somewhat desireable in Europe. If you like the Native American Fishes, check out this organization ;>)

fwiw: I prefer the black bandeds and the various pygmy sunfish myself :)

I assume most of you already know this, but for anyone reading this thread who may not know it, this book is available as an eBook for FREE online here.

Does anyone know if the authors even cooperated with the printing of the second edition? Just wondering.

:D
