Grow baby grow

Grow baby grow

I picked up one eye of the Tyree Mayan Sun Favia on the July 15th 2010. This picture shows what I ordered (web picture) and then what it looked like in Feb 2011 in my tank. Each head is 1~2" across. It looks like it is about to split into 4 more heads soon. Grow baby Grow!!!

Thank you guys, it does a new piece and i cant stop looking at this piece.. the edges are turning much greener and it look so good!!
I fell in love with those things!!!

First Favia, first real LPS..
I'm wondering, about how long are these sweeper tentacles?
I've got it like at least 6-8 inches from the closest color, a Hammer.

Pretty generic probably, but for a Noob it's cool!

Yeah, its a Favia. A pretty nice one, except for that one spot. I like it!
I will be looking for some new ones know myself. Finally getting the 60 gallon where I want it, though I did have a big Nitrate spike a week ago. It hit my two hard corals pretty hard. I don't know if the Montipora stands a chance, not likely really. My Goniastrea favid is alive, but itas looked better. I don't know what caused the big spike, but I'm going to watch my params like a hawk from now on!:hmm3:

A recent pickup. The pic doesnt show its glittery centers but oh well. The centers go from pink to orange. Im sure it has a name but forgot to ask when buying it.

I believe that your coral isn't a Favia, it is a Goniastrea palauensis. They are given the common name of "prism favia" which sparks all sorts of confusion obviously. None the less they are awesome LPS. Don't discount the piece! I have been wanting to get my hands on a frag with similar coloration to yours for some time.

I wouldn't worry about polyp extension, especially seeing as the coral is new to your tank. Let it settle into the new environment and offer it some mysis and you will see more extension. :p

Thanks for responding, and the info.

The tentacles were out like the first 7-8 days, and now they're not.
I put some Mysis in a baster, and tried to give it some, but it had nothing out to grab it with. I guess it wasn't enticed enough to come out?

Your welcome.
Keep trying with the mysis. Get your hands on some Reef Nutrition Oyster Feast. Use your baster and 'dust' the coral lightly with some diluted O.F. (with tank water). This products encourages a feeding response in more LPS than I care to list. Then follow up with some mysis or other meaty option. Kill all of your flow if it isn't grabbing it in time. Even if it isn't putting out sweepers it can still ingest the food.. Trying at night is usually easier because of the sweepers.

CoralReefDoc: Sweet looking F. speciosa. Is it an aussie or indo one?

Thanks klepto, its an Aussie ! Nice pic in your avatar, is that Cypress Point Club ... Pebble Beach ... Monterey CC ? Hard to make out with the sunset, if its CPC hats off to you
