Hey Chicago,

I'm going downtown this weekend and I'm looking for some suggestions for places to eat. I love Ben Pao and I eat there every time I go downtown, but I'll be there for a few days.....SO what's your favorite restaurant? Preferably something nonAsian. Ben Pao's already has that covered.

Thanks,

Benjie

Leona's. Several locations, the one downtown is
Taylor Street
1419 W. Taylor
Chicago, IL 60607
312-850-2222

I think it's close to the Chicago Brown line stop (Just west of Hard Rock Cafe), again I think :) I used to work around there but that was 4 years ago.

They have a website that has menu's and other locations.

Le Colonial

It's French Asian fusion.

Outstanding and easily one of the best restaurants in Chicago.

Blue Elephant: Best Thai food ever and a huge platter of their shrimp in thier sauce is only $12

Cafe Suron: Best Shish Kabob and Chicken Kabob, very nicely decorated place and each plate is around $12 also.

Las Islas Mariscas: Mexican Seafood, small place where few speak english. Tribune gave them a great review and they have the best ceviche. They are expensive though. A large is $10 and their jumbo shrimp is $25 for 11.

Not in chicago but my favorite is a place here in my town Wood Dale, its called Yue-Sun its a japanese steak and sushi house.. beats Benihannas by a mile.. my fav restaurant around!!!!!!!!

This is an unanswerable question without some guidelines. How about a price range?

My favorite restaurant and consistently ranked in Chicago's top 10 is North Pond. It'll run you $50 or more before drinks, but well worth it.

Everyone has a favorite pizza. Everyone who says anything other than Lou Malnati's is wrong.

No. 10 has absolutely amazing Italian food right in The Loop. Again, pricey.

I don't make it downtown to eat much, but last time I went, Joe's Stone Crab on Grand had very good seafood and steak. But like my wife says, I'll eat just about anything and be happy....with her cooking that is right! ;)

If you love meat go to Fogo De Chao it is one of my favorite Brazilian Steak houses and the service is great expect to wait to get seated because its always packed. Or if your looking for some Spanish Tapas, Cafe Iberico on LaSalle is great very cheap and good. They have great Sangria :D Also that place is packed also.

Italian Village - its three different resturants with different specialties. I like La Cantina the best. Good fod, not pricey, very private..... oh and the dining room is serated down the middle by 3 or 4 125s, what more do you want.

La Cantina

few bad recomedation

few bad recomedation

I can't believe someone suggested leona's???

best few (steak and seafood)
Joe's stone crab (hands down)
Capital Grill
Mortons
Tavern on Rush

Twin anchors (great ribs)

twin anchors ribs have gone downhill. i dont know why but twice in the last half dozen times ive gone the ribs have been way over cooked. but if your going to be on the far northside and want ribs go to "Gale street inn"

maybe a bad batch, I go to twin anchors just about once a month and they are 99% of the time great, the key is to get there before the crowd/wait.

bboer--i thought so too but it has happened a few times. believe me it pains me to say it. i used to live on wells and have been there dozens of times, literally. its a great place but if im looking for ribs Gale Street is where its at.

Mortons's (haven't been to the chicago one, but the one in schaumburg is EXCELLENT!)
Marche' (French cuisine)
Gioco's
Signature Room on the 95th floor
I've heard the Lux is good on michigan
Lawry's has GREAT prime rib
Rock Bottom has a cool rooftop beer garden
You could always do the usuals, hard rock, ed debevick's etc...But the best of all is when you are HAMMERED at like 4 in the morning Rock and Roll mcdonalds!!! lol

The Firehouse Restaurant 1400 S. Michigan built in an Old Chicago fire station, very good food, great drinks

Italian, Giocco's at 13th and Wabash....have fun

newnano- I may have to try gale house....wish I could walk there also!

I really really like the firehouse also, can't believe i didn't mention that before...I would get the firecracker shrimp appetizer and the pork chop...damn I am hungry now.
