Feeding BTAs

I have a few GBTAs that I occasionally feed pieces of shrimp (suggested by Rob Weatherly on Reefcast). Seems like it helps.

But...someone said they heard Anthony Calfo at MACNA (maybe?) say that they will just spit it out during the night???

What is good to feed my BTAs?

i started feeding mine shrimp last week. have fed two small pieces so far (not quite one medium shrimp yet) and both pieces got spit out that night or the next morning.

help?

how long have you had the bta took mine 3 weeks before it would really eat then it started really pigging out.

i feed a fish mash i made in the blender and my bta takes larger chunks.

I have these for about 2 months now. they really seem healthy (I feed them like once a week) and have already split once. I'd like to keep them healthy and I learned that they do not solely rely on light for food!

how do you know it got spit out?

I watched until it was completely gone, and in the morning, it looked partially digested and was covered in crabs on the floor instead of in his belly!

I feed my many gtba's everyday, they eat willingly, and there under a 400 watt 10k mh too. I am experimenting with 2x a day feedings. Anthonys comment was taken slightly out of context, he said that you shouldnt feed most anemones anything bigger than the size of a mysid shrimp, as they will spit it out at night, and the cleaner crew will nap it up and all the while the anemone isnt eating. often an anemone will expand itself to gather more light when it is nutritionally depribed and it will appear that all is well and its growing, but a little while later it mysteriously disapears. i would feed atleast once a week at the very minimum but recommend 3x a week. i use silver sides and just tear them into tiny pieces, or you could use a blender.

I feed mine formula two pellets with garlic. I get the small pellets not the large ones. It sounds weird but a friend told me his anemone reached out to get these pellets he was feeding his fish and started direct feeding them. I started about a year ago and it is all I direct feed my five BTAs. What we have determined is that in the wild anemones are really just filter feeders and eat scraps the clowns bring back or small creatures. Occasionally a fish gets caught but not very often. The Formula two pellets are the bulk of their diet along with any of the clownfish's food that they get their tenticles on.

wow.. this is great info. "the size of a mysid shrimp" is pretty small!

i have the pellets - I'll try those next.

I feed mine prime reef, it's not gelled but it does hold it's shape fairly well.

Oreo cookies for mine! hes fat as hell.

j/k ,,i just got my GBTA and ive feed it twice so far 1/2 silver each time.

Next time i think i will tear it in little pieces and feed it like mentioned above. How are you guys feeding it pellets with a baster or somthing?

What about live brine shrimp anybody have experience with that?
