Feeding fish while on vacation?

One of the better feeders on the market.
New Life Spectrum Pellet Food.
Comes in 3 sized pellets for the fish.
Test for a day or 2 before leaving & get a feeding ring of some kind.

What kind of auto feeder do you suggest?

I don't own one currently but do some research and make your own educated decision. Reliability is key and being able to program one to work several times per day is nice. I'm sure other can suggest one, Vinny provided a link to a feeding ring like I was trying to describe

I have used the Ehiem feeder for vacations as long as 10days for the past 5+ years. I run a combo of flake (smashed so it fits through the dispenser window) and pellets (sink so the shrimp and bottom dwellers get fed.

+1 on the Eheim.

Just completed 13 day vacation with it. Will look into the feeding ring next time, so I won't end up with so much in the sump since NLS pellets float through the overflow so quickly before sinking. Tip...super glue opening to ensure opening/feed amount is consistent.

Look up the "SuperFeeder". I own 4 of them. I have gotten at least 20 people to buy them and installed them in commercial installs.

They don't fail. You can mix a variety of flakes, pellets, dry and powder foods. You can adjust the portion size of each feeding and you can feed as many times a day as you like.

You can double stack the feeding box. Or you can add up to a 5g hopper for Koi ponds.

The standard unit feeds my 400g tank with 120+ fish 5x a day and lasts about 2.5 weeks.

On my 90g fresh tank it feeds 10x a day and lasts about 5 weeks.

I use Eheim, but the minimum setting overfeeds. I always had an algae spike after vacation. I got 65 gal tank with mostly corals, 5 small fish (2 cardinals. 2 clowns, 1 Flame Angel) and a cleaning crew.

Eheim is very reliable & when you find the correct opening I tape it with scotch tape so it does not move. It could be tighter in this area. Glue it & you're done with further adjustments. Preferred unit when I did maintenance on tanks.
jjencek -- You need a larger sized food source or to tape the opening smaller.

I don't bother to feel my fish when I go away. As long as they aren't on the edge of starvation already, they will be fine. Auto feeders (or a well meaning 'sitter') are far more likely to cause problems than a week or even two of fasting.

Aaah, there are different Eheim feeders. I got the dual one with the screw feeders. That one is the one that feeds too much ...
