Feeding my Gig fresh (or frozen) Salmon? That's a thing?

I am wondering what would be best to feed my Gigantea. I've had it for about 6 or 7 years, and I've always just used grocery store shrimp. You could say that if it ain't broke, don't fix it, but i hear that I could eventually run into some issues with shrimp or silversides.

That being said, is grocery store salmon alright? How can I tell if it doesn't have any additives?

Also, can I buy it fresh, then freeze it?

Thanks for the advice.

Ive always bought fresh salmon from a reputable seafood market, diced it and froze it. When I thawed it to feed my gig, mag or Mertens I'd thaw it with a few drops of Selcon on it. Right now I have tons of fresh mahi mahi bellies that I froze and do the same thing...thaw with a couple drops of Selcon on it. They love it. Never did shrimp after I had a gig spit it out several years ago.

I feed my gigs the same Mysis I feed my fish and they seem to like it.
Salmon is in my opinion too fatty and farmed salmon may contain all kinds of things (antibiotics, food coloring,...) you may not want to eat yourself, let alone feed it to an even more sensitive organism.

honestly if you have had your Gig for 6+ years I wouldnt change anything... for sure dont feed silversides... I lost 2 Nems feeding silversides, I read some reports that say they harbor lots of bacteria as they are often frozen and thawed repeatedly during transport and packing and this causes the problem.

My anemones love salmon. We eat salmon a lot and my wife always save the tail segment for my Harlequin Tusk and my anemones.
Fish fat/oil is really good for you, full of Omega 3 fatty acids. Good for your cholesterol and Vitamin D, especially the cold water fish

^^ I completely agree, ALL my anemones do amazing when I feed small piece of FRESH salmon. My btas go nuts for it althought it is high in aminos so I only feed it once a month now but it's by far their favorite.
