Feeding Regal live sponge in QT with cupramine?

Hi,

We had to excommunicate all fish from the DT because we ended up getting ich, we think from a frag because we qt'd all fish. Didn't treat them but observed so I am not 100% sure.

Well, we have a regal angel, who is very picky. We buy him live sponges to eat and he would snack on that a lot with a little frozen here and there and some algae too. He has not eaten since being placed in cupramine. Could I throw the sponge in there for him or tear off a chunk and put it in. I don't expect it to live but any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Justin

Do tank transfer method. My regals do well and get accustomed to the food offered. If he's solo, having another fish in the qt will show him the ropes. Live black worms are amazing for them btw.

I thought about TTM. I have offered this fish everything from roe, nutramar ova, live brine, live black worms, and every imaginable frozen food. He picks at live clams so I will pick more up today.

How big is that Regal?
My 5 Regals are all less than 5" and all are eating flakes, pellets, all kinds of frozen, all kinds of algae like Ulva, GHA,... and of course fresh or frozen clams. I've even seen them hunting pods. The only thing they have not touched are the fleshy sponges that grow on my live rocks... and I picked those rocks with sponges particularly with Regals in mind.

And I agree that TTM would be a better treatment choice for the Regal Angel, simply because it is faster. After that you can put it in a separate tank and feed it what it likes.

When I bought him from NyAquatics we ordered the 3-4" specimen and we got a 5-6". I didn't want one that big but what was I to do then? He picked at flakes, very little frozen, GHA, sponges. Pretty much anything on the rocks. He shows interest in the foods we feed to the other fish but never really goes for it.

Now that he is in qt, it's all gone and I am starting to get a little worried. He did have a long, white, stringy poop but I can't feed him metro since he isn't eating any foods. I believe my wife dosed the qt tank with it hoping it'll give him some relief. Could be intestinal worms making it hard for him to have an appetite. Idk. I just want him to make it through qt. I could do TTM so it's quicker but there will still be no food source.

I have found that too with sponges. I bought some blue photosynthetic plating sponge specifically to culture for my regals but they pay no attention to it. It's growing quite well in the display though.

We he just started eating more aggressive today. More than he ever did in the display. He ate flakes from the water column and devoured 2 littleneck clams. He always liked the large clams so seeing him eat those and a lot of it was a huge relief from me.

Have you used prazi? I'd stick with fresh clams, oysters, mussels until he get going well. I have found if they refuse those then they definitely aren't going take other stuff. Maybe try picking up some clumps of different macro algaes. I think the copper was a mistake on an angel like a regal that already wasn't eating strongly. Good luck though. I hope he pulls through for you. Any pics? Curious to see it's body weight.

When I get home I will post some pics. I have dosed 3 rounds of prazi. I didn't want to go with copper but it was the treatment that seemed to be the best for us. All fish were qt'd and we introduced some frags and feel that is how it got in.

There were visible spots on the regal so I caught all the fish and are all now in copper. I only observed and treated the ones that needed it, except prazi. All fish were given prazi. The regal went through 4 weeks of observation and was not eating well so I placed him in the DT hoping he would graze more and pick up eating off the other fish.

I honestly did not expect him to eat at all but today he ate voraciously. I have tons of live foods for him and will stick with what he is eating for sure.

Thanks!

I forgot to mention he had white stringy poop. He wasn't eating frozen so I couldn't add metro to his food so my wife dosed the water. Maybe that is helping with his appetite.

Looks pretty fat and healthy. I bet he'll do fine. The bigger ones can go longer than the tiny ones without eating well. Sounds like yours is headed in the right direction.

While a 5" Regal may be able to live for weeks (I had one for 7 weeks without eating) it is highly unlikely that they will start eating again on their own if they went without food for too long, simply because they stop being hungry after a while and their digestive system starts to atrophy. So ideally you want the fish to eat at least a little bit each day

He did for the most part eat a little bit every day, yesterday was just a milestone with his appetite. He went to town on everything in the tank. Today he had two clams and a mussel.

He is doing well in qt. Has been at .45 for about a week now. I treated him with metro(added to the tank since he doesn't really eat frozen), he seemed to get an appetite after the metro, I think it worked for his intestinal worms. He has been eating about 2 clams a day and nipping at nori now as well. He actually ate a bit of mysis too, but not a lot.

I am really hoping once the copper is done, he will accept more foods.
